Falmouth Hall may close- Teddy Bear Jamboree canceled

The Falmouth Hall is at risk of closure because of lack of interest or support.

The Falmouth Community Association held its annual general meeting Wednesday, May 28, with only three people attending.

Since the new board of directors could not be installed, there will be an emergency meeting Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m. to elect a new board, or face closure of the Falmouth hall.

Twelve people are needed for service on the new board of directors for the coming six months -- and following years. If this is not possible, the hall will be closed for rentals and use until such time as 12 people come forward to form a new board.

All residents are members of the Falmouth Community Association who reside in Centre Falmouth. These members are asked to come forward. Some have indicated they are willing to work on the board, but there is still need for the community’s involvement and volunteers to assist in the day to day operations of the hall.

The by-laws indicate that members elected the board must reside in Centre Falmouth in order to be elected to the

Board. Members ask for continual support to keep the hall open for rentals and event.

The Nova Scotia Teddy Bear Jamboree is cancelled for this due to lack of interest and not enough volunteers to proceed. Since the new board could not be formed and the old board is finishing their term of service, it is impossible to organize such an event. The board regrets this action, since the Nova Scotia Teddy Bear Jamboree has been operating since the early 60's.

If people are willing to submit their names to serve on this board they may contact either Karen Lamontagne at 792-1857 or Gail Symonds at 798-1053 to submit their names for the special meeting June 16.
