Missing father and son found safe
After an extensive ground and air search, a father and son reported missing in the Kejimkujik National Park were found safe Tuesday morning.
44-year old Floyd Weare and his 12-year old son Jason from North Brookfield were fishing a brook near Grafton Lake in a homemade boat Monday afternoon.
The pair lost their way and was forced to spend a long night in the woods near the Eastern boundary and Minard’s Lake.
Family to the Weare’s contacted North Queen’s Search and Rescue and a large and coordinated ground effort was organized at 2:30 a.m., lead by RCMP officer, Blair Pemberton.
By 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, 27 searchers including a helicopter began scouring the areas closest to where the pair was last seen.
Finally at 9:45 a.m. the search helicopter spotted the pair in the woods and picked them up.
Jonathan Sheppard, CBH Communications Coordinator for Kejimkujik said it was a big help that the two were holding their bright yellow life vests at the time.
“They were thrilled to be picked up,” he said. “We want to remind people to follow this simple safety procedure if in a similar situation.”
