A weekend of camaraderie and nature exploration in South West Nova is planned around the Nature Nova Scotia (Federation of Nova Scotia Naturalists) AGM from May 30 to Sunday, June 1.
Nature Nova Scotia is a provincial non-profit group that speaks and acts for the naturalist community on the provincial and national level. Members include individuals and naturalist clubs from all parts of Nova
Scotia.
The federation is accessing local experts on birds, plants, rocks, and other natural wonders for the event. Local residents are welcome to attend:
On Friday, May 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. there will be a Meet & Greet at the Visitor Information Centre in Barrington with drinks, snacks, and a talk from Dr. Sherman Boates, who will discuss the "biodiversity treasures of southwest Nova Scotia". Participants can also sign up for a number of field trips on Saturday and Sunday in Clyde River, CSI, Barrington and Pubnico areas.
On Friday night, the group will look for owls along the Wireless Hill Road. If skies are clear, they’ll do a little stargazing with
astronomer, and NNS president, Larry Bogan.
Saturday, May 31, 8 a.m.: Field trips (half-day and all-day) leave from the Visitor Information Centre.
Sunday, June 1, 9 a.m.: Annual General Meeting and breakfast at the Barrington Municipal Recreation Centre on Sherose Island. All are welcome. Visitors can join Nature Nova Scotia and participate in the meeting.
Following the meeting will be more field trips for those interested.
