The Valley United U-18 girls’ soccer team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 2-1 win over Halifax City May 14 in Halifax.

Lauren Landry and Maia Jorgenson scored the goals for the Valley squad, which has scored 10 goals and allowed just one in its first three games. Landry’s goal was her league-leading fourth of the season while Jorgenson netted her third of the year.

The Valley U-14 boys also stand first in their division at 3-1-1 entering play this weekend following a weekend split in Cape Breton May 17-18.

After dropping a 3-1 decision Saturday (in which Calum MacRae had the lone Valley goal), the U-14 boys blanked Cape Breton 1-0 Sunday. Jordan Methot scoring the game’s only goal and Matthew Lannan earned the shutout.

The Valley U-14 girls are also first in their division entering play this weekend with two wins and two ties for eight points in four games.

The U-14 girls improved to 2-0-2 with a 3-1 win over Bedford May 17. Haleigh Fletcher (with her second goal in as many games), Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith and Tessa Fudge contributed one goal apiece.

The Valley U-16 girls opened their 2008 season May 14 with a 1-1 draw against Halifax City. Chantelle Cadeau had the only Valley goal. Their second game, May 21 against Bedford, also ended in a 1-1 tie.

Meanwhile, the U-16 boys dropped to 0-3 on the season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dunbrack May 17. Ryan Crowell had the lone Valley goal.

The Valley U-18 boys, who did not play on the May 17-18 weekend (and next see action June 8), are fourth in their division with a win, a loss and a tie, and are already 14 points behind first-place Halifax City, which is off to an impressive 6-0 start.

The Valley will also field a team in the senior men’s Premier division this summer. Valley Kings Arms Pub is scheduled to begin its season Sunday, June 1 in Moncton.

The senior team’s home opener is set for Saturday, June 7 at 3 p.m. against PEI, with a second game June 8 at 3 p.m. against Halifax City. Both games are on the turf at Acadia.
