FREEMAN, Russell Havelock - 93, of Meadowbrook Manor, South Brookfield, formerly of Milton, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, May 11, 2008. Born in Milton December 29, 1914, Russell was the son of the late Edmond and Susan (Legge) Freeman. Russell and his family spent their early years in Milton before moving to Middlefield when their parents became caretakers of the former County Home. It was here that Russell’s love of baseball began. This passion followed him throughout his life with his children, the “Liverpool Jets” and as an avid “Blue Jay” fan. He was employed with Bowater Mersey Paper Company for over thirty years, retiring at age 62. He was a great lover of country music and all animals and always had a joke to tell. Russell was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He will be sadly missed by his wife and soulmate of 69 years Dorothy (Hartlen); daughters: Marguerite (Richard) Cole and Carol (Douglas) Wigglesworth, both of Milton, Jeanette (Wayne) Lewis of South Brookfield, Helen (Timothy) McGee of Tantallon, Shirley of Bridgewater; sons Lawrence (Marilyn) of Bridgewater and Edward (Lyn) of Toronto; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. Russell was predeceased by his sisters Helen Webber and Evelyn Atkinson and brothers James and Basil as well as five siblings in infancy. Funeral service was held May 15, 2008 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Rev. Jennifer Garbin officiated. Burial was in Milton Community Cemetery. Priscilla Louise (‘Lou’) Atkinson, 79 of Round Hill, Annapolis County, passed away peacefully May 11, 2008, at home surrounded by family. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late John and Agnes (Rogers) Moulaison.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family regarded her as the centre of the family circle. She was a wonderful cook, avid badminton player, past member of the Annapolis Badminton Club, member of the Altar Guild, assisted with the Junior Auxiliary at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, and enjoyed square dancing. Lou is survived by her husband, Cecil, of 60 years; children, Gordon (Sharon), Sandy Bottom Lake; John (Cindy), Shelburne; Cecile (John), Round Hill; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret, Yvonne, Shirley, Donna ‘Lee’, Louise and Dorothy; brothers, Carl, Doug, Bob, Victor and Louis (‘Bud’). She was predeceased by sisters, Patricia and Cecilia, and a brother, John. Visitation was in Kaulback Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A memorial service was held May 16 in St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, with Canon Ken Vaughan officiating. Marilee Elizabeth Montague, (1947–2008) (Westcott), of Deep River, Ont., died in her home surrounded by her family on May 11. Born in Wolfville and raised in Waterford, Digby County, by her loving parents, Phyllis (Robicheau) and the late Leigh Westcott. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Montague; mother, Phyllis Westcott; daughters, Janice Babcock (Randy) of Kingston, Ont.; and Heather Whitman of Dartmouth; grandchildren, William, Lee and Elizabeth Detlor of Kingston, Ont. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 30, in Centerville Baptist Church, Centerville Digby County. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Centreville. CLARKE, Marion Ethel – May 3, 1917 – May 12, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Marion Ethel Clarke, Dartmouth, formerly of Upper Sackville and Yarmouth on May 12, 2008 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Marion will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend. Born in Yarmouth, the daughter of S. Gordon and Ethel Trefry (Robbins), Arcadia, Marion was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, John (Knobby) Clarke. Her family was the centre of her life, loving a good game of 45’s or Rummy with family and friends, knitting mittens and toques for the Angel Tree and mastering her weekly Lexicon. She is survived by daughter, Sharon Clarke (David Josey), son Gary Clarke (Beverly), grandchildren, Shelley Clarke-Raftus (Mark Raftus), Kimberley Horne (Craig Statham), Thomas Clarke (Peggy Yiptong), Chris Horne (Terri Lynn Bonnar) and great grandchildren Rebecca and Logan Raftus; sisters Muriel Stewart, Oshawa, Margaret Meister, New Ross, Josephine Fevens and Phyllis Poole, Yarmouth. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses of the Transitional Care and Palliative Care units of the Dartmouth General Hospital for their special caring during Mom’s last days. MAGARVEY, Earl Phillip - 86, of Granville Ferry formerly of Parker’s Cove, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 in the North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry. Born in Young’s Cove, he was a son of the late John and Gertrude Magarvey and lived his life in Parker’s Cove. Earl had cattle and horses; worked in the herring fishery, in the woods and for 29 years drove a school bus. He is survived by a brother, Kinsman, Parker’s Cove and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters. Cremation has taken place. By request, there will be no visitation. A private family graveside service was held Friday, May 16, 2008 in the Parker Mountain Cemetery, Pastor Bruce Kaiser officiated. By request, family flowers only. HARDING, Aubrey St. Clair, 72, Shelburne. It is with the sadness that our family announces the passing of Aubrey on May 13, 2008. Born in Allendale, he was the son of the late Claire and Ruby (Giffin) Harding. Aubrey graduated from Acadia University where he played varsity soccer and basketball. He then obtained a teaching degree at the Nova Scotia Teachers College. Aubrey pursued many different careers throughout his lifetime from working on the Great Lakes to selling mobile homes and most recently working in the fishing industry. Always an avid sportsman, he coached the Lenwood Baseball Team for several years as well as a number of little league baseball and hockey teams. He very much enjoyed dabbling in politics. Aubrey liked what he did and did what he liked. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Maria (Oickle); son, Audie (Patsy); daughters, Glee (Bill); Cyndi ( Dudley); Kim (Barry), all residing in Shelburne and Gwen, who currently lives in Olds, Alberta; step-son, Peter Corkum, Bridgewater; grandchildren, BJ, Ryan, Lacey, Luke, Devon, Jesse, Paige, Chantay, Sara, Genna, Liam and Camryn; great-grandson, Kyler. He was predeceased by sisters, Gertrude, Glee and Gael, and his first wife, Lennie (Goreham); grandsons, William and Drew. Funeral service was 16 May, 2008 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Shelburne. Rev. Troy Dennis officiated. Interment was in Louis Head Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Norman LaVerne McKenzie - 76, Windermere, Kings Co. passed away at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Wednesday May 14, 2008. Born in Windermere, on October 31, 1931, he was the eldest born to Ralph and Flora (Barkhouse) McKenzie. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Norman worked for James Silver Trucking and Berwick Fruit Company, from where he retired in 1989. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Hilda (Gould) McKenzie, Windermere; two nieces & five nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Stanley McKenzie; sister, Margaret Rose Huntley. There was no visitation at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place. A public graveside service was held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday May 20, in the Berwick Cemetery. Rev. Donald Hirtle officiated, and a reception followed in the Windermere Hall. Campbell, Daniel Dean (“Dan”) – 67, Chebogue Point, died suddenly on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at his home on Chebogue Point. Born on March 19, 1941 in Ashland, Maine, he was the eldest son of Holman H. and Katherine M. (Colbath) Campbell. He was a graduate of Framingham High School, Newman Preparatory College and the Honeywell Institute of Computer Science, all in Massachusetts. After moving to Nova Scotia in 1971, he was employed with IMO Foods, Inc. for several years as a systems analyst and traffic manager, with L.G. Trask Insurance as their Lloyd’s of London agent and later with D. L. Josey Insurance Adjustors. Dan is survived by his three sons, Adrian, Halifax; Morgan, Chebogue Point; Judd (Cora) and grandchildren, Madeline and Benjamin, Woodvale; three stepsons, Bill Devitt, St. Croix; David Devitt, Yarmouth; Steven Devitt (Sonia Losier) and two step-grandchildren, Maxime and Maryse Losier, Dartmouth; and his former wife, Linda Campbell, Woodstock. He is also survived by his father, Holman (Florence), Framingham, MA; his mother, Katherine, Natick, MA; sister-in-law Beatrice (Leroux) Campbell, Natick, MA; siblings, Sharon Campbell, Medway, MA; Barbara (Edwin) Sloper, Framingham, MA; Dianne (Steve) Hannan, Natick, MA; Doreen (David) Kelly, Natick, MA; Joseph (Kyoung), Seoul, Korea; Mary (Jay) Verner, Medway, MA; Margaret (Ken) Kearns, Natick, MA; Stephen (Moira), Canterbury, NH; Jeffrey, Natick, MA; David (Carol), Sturbridge, MA; and half brother, Mark, WV; as well as several aunts and uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His next younger brother, Jim, predeceased him in November 2007. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations in Dan’s memory may be made to the Meadowfields Community School Breakfast Program.
