Shellfish harvesting banned
The Annapolis Basin to shellfish harvesting because of bacteriological contamination.
Harvesting of bi-valve and gastropod molluscs for recreational and commercial purposes has been prohibited by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans until further notice.

Shellfish involved include clams, mussels, scallops, quahogs, whelks and oysters.

The department says high bacteriological counts have had an adverse effect on shellfish growing in the area.

Where are the toxins coming from? My guess is the sewer treatment plant in the area. Now if this is the case they should be responsible for the lost wages that are made on these parts of the beaches.I know if my sewer over flowed or leaked onto somebodys property I would responsible for the clean up and whatever other cost that would be involved. These type of people will definitly find a way to cover up the truth to protect their pockets while others will have to suffer. I have to laugh, close the beach for 3 weeks and hope it disapears, it's not that easy.
