White Rock news

Hello, again. How is everyone doing with this cool weather we’ve had lately? I know that Branden and Dylan want to wear shorts, but, in my opinion, it really isn’t warm enough, at least not in the mornings.

The fitness night that was taking place on Wednesday nights at the White Rock Community hall has been temporarily discontinued for the summer months. Hopefully, if the interest is still there in the fall, the classes will start up again. Although I didn’t get to go to every one, I enjoyed the ones I did attend.

Soccer will be starting soon, so don’t forget to get all the equipment out and checked for sizes and stuff. While you’re checking the cleats and shinpads, don’t forget to check for the season supply of bug spray and sunscreen. It is, after all, a necessary supply too.

Happy birthday to Faye Coleman, who celebrates May 20, and Lois Long, who will celebrate May 21.

Chad Cudmore is celebrating his birthday May 25 and Sharon Lake will celebrate May 27. Best wishes to everyone who is celebrating a special day this week.

The card parties take place Tuesday evenings at the Black River Community hall. Another fun-filled evening took place May 13. Cassie Green won the ladies’ first and Jean Norman took ladies’ second. Reg Pick won the gents’ first prize and Don Woodworth won gents’ second.

Ken Long won the low for the gents and Elaine Woodworth had the ladies’ low. The door prize went to Leo Spinney and the traveler to Jean Spinney. Deanna Schofield won the 50/50.

Bruce and Helen Long donated the prizes for the evening. Freeman and Violet Levy donated the prizes last week. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the evening go well.

Fuel prices are ridiculous these days. The price we pay to fill up our vehicles for the week are twice what they used to be or even more.

What makes it even more annoying is the oil companies are reporting record profits for the first quarter of the year. Just imagine what the truckers are going through.

We complain about our price of filling up, but the price of filling up a tractor-trailer can easily be $1,000 now. There is a group of truckers in California trying to do something about this. They are striking and trying to slow down freight deliveries to make the point to the government.

The more fuel prices rise, the more our groceries and all other items are going to cost. They are delivered to the stores via truck and the truckers need more money to survive. Maybe everyone should start writing to their MLA, Premier, Prime Minister and oil companies – maybe when we annoy them enough with our complaints they will start listening.

Think about it; let’s see if we can start making a stand, too. This affects everyone, whether you drive a car or not.

Have a great week, bye for now.
