DRHS softball girls in action today
The senior girls’ softball team from Digby Regional High School is playing at home today at 4 p.m. against St. Mary’s Bay Academy.
Play is on the Don Brown Memorial Field at Church and Victoria streets.

The team has proven a potent force in local slow pitch action, easily overpowering Annapolis West Education Centre 13 - 0 in a game May 6.

Then, in a ‘fun tournament’ last weekend at St. Croix, the girls downed the nearby Windsor school of Kings-Edgehill 18 – 0.

However, that was it for ‘fun’ with Digby dropping its match Friday with New Germany 8 -2, and then losing 10 – 4 in seven innings to eventual tournament winner South Colchester.

To Digby’s credit, it was the only team to push the tournament winners, said coach Amanda Deane.

“South Colchester beat everyone else in five innings,” she said. That included New Germany.

The regional championships will be held May 30-31 and the provincials are scheduled for June 6-7.

Softball’s regional playoffs are held the same days as the track and field regionals in Bridgetown, and Deane said the timing isn’t good for some players who also are on the track team.

The Digby team next plays next at home May 21 at 4:30 p.m. against Bridgetown.

Rain had washed out a scheduled game May 8 in Bridgetown.
