Eugene Lester Aalders – 78, of Welton’s Landing, South Alton, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at home. Born in Welton’s Landing, he was a son of the late Clinton and Emeline (Russell) Aalders. He had been employed for 38 years as a truck driver for the former T. P. Calkin Limited and later, Sumners until retiring due to ill health. He enjoyed music, especially classical and fiddle music. He was a member of the South Alton Baptist Church and in 1978 became a founding member of the church choir. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when music was involved and in later years, loved to putter at various projects. He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce DeAdder; three daughters, Paula Shaver, Coldbrook; Angela (Michel) Laurin, Calgary; Michelle Aalders, Saskatoon; two sons, Randy (Shelley) and Mark (Jeanette), both of Welton’s Landing; two sisters, Onabel Doyle, North Alton; Verna (Ross) Smith, Centreville; two brothers, Bernard (Charlotte), Cole Harbour; Laurie, South Alton; nine grandchildren, Gregg and Jon Shaver, Ryan, Evan, Josh and Jake Aalders, Gabrielle and Dominick Laurin, and Molly Moors; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Michelia and Sarah Aalders; two brothers, Oren and Foster; a sister-in-law, Lila Aalders and a brother-in-law, John Doyle. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, Reverend Quincy Collins officiated. Annie Marie Bickerton – 90, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Bessie (Wry) Saunders. In 1945 she moved to Canning with her husband to establish their clothing business, Bickerton’s Clothing. She continued as a homemaker, enjoyed newfound friendships, dancing, playing bridge and family and church outings. Marie excelled as an artist, having many of her paintings accepted in juried shows, ultimately to hang in many homes and galleries throughout the Maritimes. She shared this talent by teaching art to many children at classes in her home. She also compiled the historical book, “Old Timers – Canning and Habitant”. She was a member of the Canning Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of the choir and the Ladies Auxiliary. In addition, she was a CGIT leader and a member of the Women’s Institute. She was a member of the Kings County District School Board from 1982 – 1988, a member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia and the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, an honourary life member of the Fieldwood Heritage Society, a former member of the Kings Historical Society and a member of the original Tom Thumb Bowling League. She was a sports enthusiast, enjoying watching baseball, hockey and golf. Her great grandchildren became a focal point in her life and she looked forward to their company as they always found a way to enlighten her and brighten her day. She is survived by a son, John (Donna), Sheffield Mills; four grandchildren, Christopher Bickerton, Heather Fraser, Cheryl Bickerton and Susan Bickerton; eight great grandchildren, Mitchell and Evan Fraser; Allyssia, Kristen, Shane and Taylor Bickerton; Emma and Morgan Bickerton; special friend, Bonnie Rooney, several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased her husband, Robert Aurele; a son, Robert Allan; two sisters, Dorothy Hall and Viola Estabrooks; three brothers, Ralph (in infancy), Clarence “Bud” and John “Jack”. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 in the Canning Baptist Church, Reverend Pamela Estey officiated. Burial took place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. ROBINSON (Hattie) Kathlene Mary- 82, Yarmouth, passed away on May 7, 2008 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 28, 1925 in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of the late William and Vera (Jacquard) Pothier. Kay loved to shop and spend money on her grandchildren. She was a homemaker most of her life. Kay lived in Lexington, MA. for 37 years, returning home two years ago. Surviving are daughters Bernadette (Robert) Bennett- Yarmouth, Becky (Tim) Smith- Carleton; son William “Bill” (Zita) Hattie- Digby Co.; sister Joyce Emin- Wilmot, Kings Co.; grandchildren Kathie Smith- Wolfville, Dwayne Surette- Ontario, Timothy Smith- Brazil Lake, Bobbie-Jo Bennett- Yarmouth, Steven Hattie- Wedgeport, Tera-Lee Doucette- Wedgeport, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband William Hattie, second husband Charles Robinson, and a brother and sister in infancy. The family would like to thank caregivers David and Helen Killam, for the special care they showed to Kay. THe remains were resting in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There was no visitation at the request of the family. A private family service took place at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Interment will take place at a later date. Nadine Elizabeth Justice - 52, of Harmony Kings Co., passed away after a long and courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer on Wednesday May 7, 2008 in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Trenton, Ont., she was a daughter of the late Allen and Margaret (Croak) Justice. Nadine was a very loving and caring mother, sister, aunt and friend. Her family was everything to her. She loved to help anyone she could. Nadine was a hard worker, she is remembered for her determination and sense of humour. She had a great love for animals and music. She will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. Nadine is survived by her daughters, Liberty Justice and Erika Wiens; sisters, Marilyn (Don Ritchie) Justice, Colleen (Steve) Philpott; brothers, Paul (Colleen), Greg (Paulette Spencer), Chris (Patti); nieces, Lindsay, Tara, Amber and Devon; nephews, Robbie and Kyle; great nephew, Riley. Besides her parents, Nadine was predeceased by her husband Russell Stuber. There was no visitation for Nadine by her family’s request. Aubrey Lester Wheaton - 91, Somerset, Kings Co. passed away Friday May 9, 2008, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick, two months to the day short of his 92nd. birthday. Born in Harbourville, Kings Co. he was a son of the late Charles and Alice (Foley) Wheaton. Aubrey had worked at Fuller’s Farm in Welsford and in construction work with Lester Rawding. He also worked with the Department of Highways and Easson’s Transport Ltd., Berwick, as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1981. Aubrey attended church locally. Surviving are his children, David (Lynda), Hamilton, Ont.; Garnet (Kay), Somerset; Rev. Ronald Clayton “Ron” Hodges - 81, Aylesford, Kings Co. passed away Saturday May 10, 2008, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Morristown, Kings Co. he was a son of the late Charles “Charlie” and Lucy (Uhlman) Hodges. Ron moved from Morristown to Aylesford in 1945 and operated a mixed farm with his father and brother and had opened graves in the Aylesford & Morristown area most of his life. Ron had worked at the Aylesford Fruit Company and also owned and operated Ron’s Variety Store in Aylesford from 1964-1977. After that he worked at the Berwick Bakery and at James Lamb’s Farm. He was a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Treasurer for 50 years. Ron was a Life Member of the Aylesford & District Lions Club and was a Past President, Past Zone Chairman and Past Deputy District Governor. He was former board member for Victorian Order of Nurses (Kings Branch) and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (Kings County). Surviving are son, Brian (Debbie) Hodges, Aylesford; grandchildren, David (Rana) Hodges, Edmonton, Alta.; Candis (Eric) Diaz, Red Deer Alta.; Kevin (Andrea) Hodges & Wesley Hodges, all of Aylesford; Jesse Hodges, Edmonton, Alta.; great grandchildren, Hailey, Desiree & Ocean; brother, Lawrence (Altee) Hodges, Aylesford East; sister, Jessie (Hardy) Lutz, South Berwick; several nieces & nephews. BOUDREAU, Emerita Marie – 93, Lower Wedgeport, Yarmouth County, passed away peacefully after a five day stay in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Born in Middle West Pubnico, she was the first child of Edgar and Therese (d’Entremont) LeBlanc. She was an office worker for the federal government, having worked in Ottawa for 26 years. Upon her retirement in 1968, she and her husband retired to Nova Scotia, to her husband’s birthplace in Lower Wedgeport, where they built a new home, and where she still lived, thanks to her dedicated caregivers who helped her these past few years. Emerita was an avid and able bridge player, a game she enjoyed playing well into her eighties. She kept her mind sharp by solving crossword puzzles, reading and following world events. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as by several sisters-in-law. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Dennis F. Boudreau; a son, Joseph, in infancy; a daughter, Claire-Therese in infancy; brothers, Armelle, Oswald, Capt. Jules, Capt. Edouard, Dr. Neil and Clarence; sisters, Juliette and Yvonne. Visitation took place from 2 to 4 and again from 7 to 9 on Monday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 6 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Wielsaw Papuga officiated. SWEENEY, Rodney Michael - 68, Tusket, Yarmouth Co., passed away in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on May 5, 2008. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Roy and Vivian (Hanson) Sweeney. Rodney served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1958-1994; he was a member of the Black Watch Regiment and the 2nd Royal Canadian Regiment. He was also Chief Commissionaire for Yarmouth District from 1984-1999. Rodney was a member of Bishop Albert Leménager Council 8988 (Tusket) of the Knights of Columbus, and was also a Fourth Degree member of the Msgr. W.E. Younge Fourth Degree Assembly in Yarmouth. He was also a member of the Wedgeport Legion, Branch No. 155, and volunteered for Rails and Trails. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Geraldine (Jacquard); sons, Wayne (Sharon), Halifax; Todd (Shelley), Tusket; daughters, Judy (Wayne) Smith, Newfoundland; Pamela (Doug) Connors, Alberta; brothers, Richard (Lillian), Alberta; Murray Sweeney, Yarmouth; sisters, Patsy Sweeney, Sheila (Bill) Parker, both of Halifax; Sue-Anne (Cyril) DeCoursey, Winnipeg; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jaime, Michael, Sean, Rebecca, Raven; stepgrandson, Josh; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Haley, and Jordan. Visitation took place 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, with a Royal Canadian Legion service at 7:30 p.m. and prayers at 8 p.m., all in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. PERO, Mae Genevieve – 83, Yarmouth, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, passed away peacefully into God’s loving arms at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on May 6, 2008. Born in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of the late William “Billy” and Martha (Deveau) Murree. Mae was a homemaker who loved gardening, especially lilacs and roses. She had a keen sense of humor, enjoyed crocheting, and loved her family. She was very involved in TOPS, as well as bowling, and going to Frenchy’s. Surviving are her sons Lorne (Patricia), and Garfield (Darlene), both of Yarmouth; daughters Donna Doucette (formerly married to Richard), Yarmouth, and Lisa (Gordon Watkins) Paterson, Kemptville; grandchildren Dana (Patrina), Rachelle (Paul), Gina, Michael, Kyle, Melissa, Joseph (Karen) and Jarred; as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband of 34 years, William “Dick”, she is predeceased by brothers Delbert Murree, Roy Murree; and sisters Mildred Atkinson and Muriel Knowles. There was no visitation, and the funeral will take place at 2:00 PM Friday, May 9th, at St. Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, with Father John MacPherson officiating. Darrell Trent Campbell – It is with great sadness that Carol E. Campbell announces the passing of her husband, Darrell T. Campbell on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the age of 45 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 23 years, and also leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Jacquelyn A. Campbell of Medicine Hat; his mother, Ramona Campbell of Kentville, Nova Scotia; three brothers, Terry Campbell of Edmonton, Alberta, Kevin Campbell of Kentville, Lyle Campbell of Calgary, Alberta; brother-in-law, Jim Anderson of Calgary; and sister-in-law, Lynn Anderson of Calgary; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Darrell was predeceased by his father, Hugh Campbell; his father-in-law, H.B. Anderson; mother-in-law, Elaine Anderson; and his loving dogs, Jasper and Banff. Darrell was born on September 30, 1962 in Fredericton, New Brunswick and grew up in Kentville, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Cornwallis High and went on to graduate from the Radio College of Canada in Toronto. Darrell served 20 years in the military and upon retirement began a new adventure in Medicine Hat with CUBIC Field Services.
