Police respond to variety of calls

The RCMP responded to 67 calls for assistance during the week of May 5 through May 12. Among these were three false alarms; five false 911s; 14 traffic matters and four domestic incidents.

Following are highlights of these calls:

-- May 5 at 1:30 p.m. An Upper Granville resident reported seeing a suspicious person loitering. Police attended and discovered that the person was waiting for the Kings Transit bus.

-- May 5 at 1:35 p.m. A Lequille resident reported a break and enter into an outbuilding. Seven bags of recyclable bottles were stolen.

-- May 5 at 2:35 p.m. An individual on a fishing trip in Springfield reported finding new tractor tires in the woods.

-- May 5 at 2:43 p.m. Police received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 1 near Wilmot. The matter was dealt with.

-- May 5 at 4:55 p.m. Police were called to Parkers Cove in response to a possible breech of court order. The investigation continues.

-- May 5 at 6:14 p.m. Police received a report that an individual was violating the conditions of his house arrest. One 24 year-old male was arrested and lodged in cells overnight until his court appearance the next morning. The individual has been remanded to custody until the next court date on May 12.

-- May 6 at 11:35 a.m. Police were called to Granville Centre after a business reported four automobile batteries had been stolen from vehicles during the night.

-- May 6 at 7:39 p.m. A motorist reported two youth were on the Stronach Mountain overpass on the Highway 101, and throwing rocks. One 12 year-old and a 15 year-old face charges for mischief and are scheduled to appear in court next month.

-- May 7 at 9 a.m. Police were called to Middleton after an 18-wheeler knocked down a series of power poles near Price Chopper.

-- May 7 at 10:18 p.m. A Granville Ferry property owner contacted police after checking the property and discovering a break and enter. Someone had removed copper pipe from the building.

-- May 7 at 3:11 p.m. Police were called to a traffic collision in Bear River after a motorcycle and another vehicle collided. A patrol was made, but the motorcycle and driver had left the scene, the matter remains under investigation.

-- May 7 at 8:28 p.m. A Paradise resident contacted police after discovering a quantity of firewood had been stolen.

-- May 7 at 11:55 p.m. A Bridgetown resident reported seeing a suspicious person near an apartment complex. A patrol was made, but failed to locate the vehicle.

-- May 8 at 1:38 a.m. An alert citizen contacted police to request assistance in preventing an impaired individual from driving a motor vehicle. A patrol was made, but the caller had successfully dealt with the matter before police arrived.

-- May 8 at 9:30 a.m. A business owner in Lequille notified police that three suspicious individuals had stayed on the premises overnight. A patrol was made, but the individuals had vacated the property.

-- May 8 at 3:25 p.m. Police were called to Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton to assist staff in dealing with an aggressive individual. The individual was arrested and taken to cells. Assault charges are pending and the individual is scheduled to appear in court.

-- May 8 at 4:20 p.m. Police received a report of an erratic driver on the 101 Highway near exit 22. The driver has been identified and the matter was dealt with accordingly.

-- May 9 at 8 a.m. A Lequille resident contacted police after discovering a license plate had been stolen from a vehicle over night.

-- May 9 at 10:53 a.m. Police were called to a two-vehicle accident in Middleton. Minimal damage to vehicles, no injuries were reported.

-- May 9 at 7:57 p.m. A Bridgetown resident reported an erratic driver after an aqua-coloured Cavalier was seen speeding and squealing tires. A patrol was made but failed to locate the vehicle.

-- May 10 at midnight A police check of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 1 near Wilmot resulted in the arrest of a 40 year-old male. A quantity of marijuana and LSD was seized and drug charges are pending.

-- May 10 at 00:30 a.m. Police received a report that four youth were on the roof of a Bridgetown church. A patrol was made, but the youth had departed.

-- May 10 at 10:36 a.m. Police received a report of a traffic hazard in Lequille after a wayward horse was loose on the road. The owner corralled the animal before police arrived on the scene.

-- May 10 at 1:17 P.M. Police were called to a traffic accident on Highway 1 in Wilmot after a driver lost control of the vehicle. Mechanical failure is deemed to be the cause of the accident and the driver is charged with operating a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker.

-- May 10 at 1:27 p.m. A property owner in Lequille contacted police after discovering the picture window had been smashed. It appears that someone had thrown a rock and smashed the window.

-- May 10 at 2:51 p.m. Police were called to investigate a break and enter into a Cornwallis business. A computer and quantity of money were stolen. The matter is under investigation.

-- May 10 at 3:34 p.m. Highway 101 at Exit 19. An erratic driver complaint resulted in a driver charged with changing lanes in an unsafe manner.

-- May 10 at 11 p.m. Police, fire, and ambulance services were called to Torbrook after a vehicle was flipped in the ditch. Two passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The matter is under investigation and charges are possible.

-- May 11 at 3 p.m. Police received a report that youth were spray-painting graffiti on the old railway bridge in Clementsport. The investigation continues.

-- May 11 at 5:03 p.m. Police received a report of a traffic hazard on the 201 Highway near Paradise, after two cows got loose. The matter was quickly resolved.

-- May 11 at 7:46 p.m. A Wilmot business owner contacted police after discovering an item had been shoplifted.
