Looking for win on the road
Two chances for victory remain for DRHS rugby squad
The points column still shows zero for the Digby Regional High School rugby team, but coach Alain Saulnier remains optimistic of at least one win in the season’s remaining two games.
Both games are on the road—against Central Kings on May 15, and Middleton on May 22—and both opponents are beatable, Saulnier says.
The home Mariners could have beaten West Kings, too, but the game Thursday instead turned into a 15 – 0 loss.
“We had our chances, they had their chances,” he said afterwards.
“Our backs were just standing around. They have to be on full flight run. But our forwards played beautifully.”
With no hope of making the playoffs, Digby will play out this season with an eye on prospects for next year when the Valley Rugby League becomes a two-tier league and playoff spots will be guaranteed.
The Digby rugby squad may also get a lift from this afternoon’s pep rally in the DRHS gym that is being held for all school teams, Saulnier said.
