Queens County surfers heading to world championships
Three Queens County surfers qualified for the Canadian team at the end of March at the third annual Nor’easter Surf Contest at White Point Beach Resort.

Taylor Connolly, Connor Marsh and Isaac Norman qualified to be part of the Canadian Junior Surf Team to compete at the World Junior Surf Games in France May 22 to June 2.

On March 29 there were 60 competing surfers. Team manager Jeff Norman described the surf conditions as good.

Connor Marsh and Isaac Norman competed in the boys under 16 category placing first and second.

Ben Woodford, Taylor Connolly and Isaac Norman placed first, second and third in the boys under 18 category.

“The boys all did great,” said Norman.

The three surfers competed in the World Junior Surf Games two years ago in Portugal.

The team finished in 21st place.

To prepare for the upcoming games in France, Norman said they are “just surfing whenever they get out.”

The Region of Queens Municipality gave the surfers a sport travel assistance grant of $1,000.
