April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued GRAY, Nelson Eugene - 83, Carleton, Yarmouth Co., passed away on April 29, 2008, in Tidal View Manor. Born in Carleton, Yarmouth Co., on April 17, 1925, he was a son of the late Alvin and Francis (Allen) Gray. Nelson owned his own construction and trucking business and worked in the area for many years. As a young man, he worked in Goose Bay, Labrador, and Ontario. He enjoyed buying construction machinery, trucks and cars. Nelson was well-known for his kindness and was a friend to many wherever he went. He had a keen interest in Carleton Cemetery. Surviving are daughter, Connie (Ian) Peach, New Zealand; brother, Leslie (Marie) Buckhorn, Ontario, and sister, Helen (Brian) Pollard, Victoria, B.C. Nelson was loved by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Brittain) Gray; sister, Gerda (Swyer); brothers, Elton and Oscar. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A graveside memorial service will take place on Wednesday, June 25, at 11 a.m. in Carleton Cemetery with Rev. Bev Densmore officiating. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued MOOD, Wilfred William - 87, Kemptville, Yarmouth Co., passed away on April 29, 2008, at home. Born in Kemptville on January 13, 1921, he was a son of the late James and Myrtle (Wilson) Mood. Wilfred was a member of Kemptville United Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Nova Scotia, a past member the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61, and a member of the Kemptville Seniors Club. He was a carpenter all his working life. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis (Hoyle) Mood; son, Carl (Nancy) Mood, Grafton, Ont.; brothers, George (Kathleen) Mood, Yarmouth; Malcolm (Barbara) Mood, Yarmouth; sister Mildred Hayes; Yarmouth, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wilfred was predeceased by his first wife, Erma (Hamilton) Mood; brothers, Kenneth, Lawrence, and Glendon; sisters, Irene Randall and Ellen Dease. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A memorial service was held on Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, Rev. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued LeBLANC, Emilda Thérèse - 80, Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, and formerly of Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Yarmouth County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in the villa. Born October 5, 1927 in Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, she was a daughter of the late James and Ida (Saulnier) Surette. She was a homemaker, and a full-time mom. Emilda was a very loving and caring woman who loved music, bingo and bowling, having played on several leagues. She was a breast cancer survivor, and she and her husband were instrumental in founding the HOPE Centre in Yarmouth, for which they created the logo. Surviving are her children, Wayne (Ida) LeBlanc, Yellowknife, N. W. T.; Rolland (Wendy) LeBlanc, Saratoga Springs, N. Y.; Linda (Steve) Delahay, Calgary, Alta.; Gerald (Marie) LeBlanc, Franklin, N. H.; loving grandchildren, Adam (Amanda), Curtis, Michelle, Michael, Samantha, Jason, Acadia, Rémi and Devon. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Yvonne (Joseph) LeBlanc, Sluice Point; Dorothy (Keith) Bradshaw, Florida; Delbert (Carole) Surette, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau; Claire Burnetti, Connecticut; Bernie (Marg) Surette and Florence (Arnold) Kirk, both of Ontario ; Ruth Surette, Arcadia ; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard V. LeBlanc; a brother, James Surette; sisters, Edna, in childhood; Celeste McNevin and Agnes Clements; a grandson, Jonathan LeBlanc. Visitation took place from 2-4, and again from 7-9 on Saturday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11:00 am, on Monday, May 5 from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued GIBSON, Claire Topping - 79, Round Hill, Annapolis County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in the Digby General Hospital. She is survived by her husband Philip Gibson, Round Hill; daughter Joanne and grandchildren Annie and Reid, all of Forest Hills, New York. Cremation has taken place and no visitation by request. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued LeBLANC, Benjamin Joseph – 90, Little Dolphin Seniors’ Boarding Home, Mavillette, and formerly of Abram’s River, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in the home. Born December 11, 1917 in Abram’s River, he was a son of the late Melbourne and Eva (Comeau) LeBlanc. He worked as a painter and labourer. Benjamin was a proud veteran of the second World War, having served with the 5th Medium Regiment in Italy, France and Holland, and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155, Wedgeport, and he was also a member of the Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau New Horizons. He was an avid hunter and gardener, and he enjoyed music, dancing and playing cards. Surviving are a son, Bobby (Debbie) Thibeau, Chegoggin; two grandchildren ; two great grandchildren ; brothers, Désiré (Antoinette) LeBlanc, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau; Jerry (Frances) LeBlanc, Toronto; sisters, Edith Silk, Toronto ; Bernadette (Aurele) Bélanger, Sherbrooke, Qué. He was also a special uncle to several nieces and nephews, and he will be fondly missed by his many friends, especially David Warner and Ray Warner. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Archie LeBlanc and Arthur LeBlanc; a sister, Florence Boudreau. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday, with a Royal Canadian Legion service at 7:30 PM, followed by prayers at 8 PM, all in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 3 from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Crépin Khonde officiating. Interment took place in the parish cemetery. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued Elizabeth Bernice (Beker) Toulson – 96 - Wolfville, N. S., passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, April, 30, 2008 at the Wolfville Nursing Home. “Libbie”, as she was known to family and friends, was born in 1911 in Windsor, N. S. She was a daughter of the late Edwin and Nellie (Chandler) Beker and was the last surviving member of her family. She was raised and educated in Windsor, Nova Scotia. In 1935 she married John William Toulson, “Bill”. They settled in Greenwich, Kings Co., N. S. and engaged in a mixed farming operation until 1972. Libbie stayed in the home she loved until ill health forced her to leave. Libbie was a very energetic and active member of her community. She was a dedicated member of Horton Rebekah Lodge, serving as Noble Grand and as District Deputy President. She was a Charter member and Past President of the Greenwich Women’s Association and of the Silver and Gold Seniors Club of Wolfville. She was active as a leader with Girl Guides of Canada. Libbie was an avid reader and an accomplished gardener and continued until ill health prevented her from doing so. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, woodworking, skating, swimming, music and traveling. She became interested in Genealogy and spent many hours researching her family tree. Much of her research appears in the book written by Margaret Tuttle, John Wilson, and Jack Chandler: “The Chandler and Chandley Families of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick”. The book is dedicated to Libbie for her outstanding contribution. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the ‘light of her life’. Besides her parents, Nellie & Edwin, she was predeceased by an infant son, and in 1972 by her loving husband, Bill. She was also predeceased by infant grandsons, John Jordan and Jan Jordan, and by brothers, Roland, Blanchard, Wilfred, Ernest, Raymond, and by sisters, Mary Eliza, Dorothy Ruth and Rachel and sisters in-law, Florence Smith, Fern Trudel, and brother in-law, Reverend Edgar Richardson. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Helen (Delmar Jordan), Greenwich; Donna (Dr. Gary Curtis), Truro; grandchildren, Jamie Jordan (Kersti Tacreiter), St. Margaret’s Bay; Timothy Jordan (Melanie McInnis), Dartmouth; Jennifer Curtis, Truro; Dr. Heather Curtis (Dr. Donald MacQuarrie), Halifax; great grandchildren, Quinn Alexander Jordan, Mikka Dylan Jordan, St. Margaret’s Bay and Megan Elizabeth MacQuarrie, Halifax and by several nieces and nephews in Canada and the UK. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in St. Andrews United Church, Wolfville, Reverend Robyn Brown-Hewitt officiating. Burial will take place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. A reception will follow in the Greenwich United Church. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, Valley Regional Hospital, the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses – Home Care or to a charity of your choice. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued KING, Albert Victor- 83, Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co., passed away on May 1, 2008 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth on February 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Percy and Elizabeth (Anderson) King. Albert was a member of the Brooklyn United Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 30 years. He was a dairy farmer and woodsman all his working life. Surviving are wife Marion (Allen) King; daughters Marjorie (Phillip) Sweeney- St. Stephen, NS., Barbara (John) Knock- Yarmouth; son George (Heather) King- Yarmouth; sisters Mildred (Merle) Wetmore- Beaver River; Ruth (Keith) Trefry- Yarmouth, grandchildren Wendy, April, Danny, Willie, Misty, Heather, Chris, Laura, Sarah, JoAnn, Jarah, Jonathan, Matthew and great-grandchildren Alex, Justin, Cheyanna, Makayla, Percy, Casey, Moss, Riley, Owen, Madeline, Taylor, Morgan, Rachel, and 2 baby great-grandchildren on the way. Albert was predeceased by brother, Robert. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours were Sunday May 4, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life took place Monday May 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth, Rev. A.D. Bill Newell officiated. Interment took place in the Brooklyn Cemetery. A reception followed at the Brooklyn Community Centre. April 27 to May 3, 2008 continued MILLIGAN, Everett Vernon “Vern”- 60, of Port George, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the QEII New Infirmary, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Frederick and Annabelle (Weatherbee) Milligan. Vern retired after 35 years as an office supervisor with the Department of Transportation in Middleton. He was a past member and past president of the Mid-Valley Kinsmen Club. He loved going to camp and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a loyal fan of the Detroit Redwings and NASCAR. He was a fantastic story teller and brought much laughter to many. Vern is survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Barbara Anthes; daughters, Karen (David) Cole, Nictaux; Jennifer Milligan, Port George; sisters, Beverly (Derry) Gillis and Barbara (Grant) Campbell, both of Dartmouth, NS and grandchildren, Keysha and Devin Cole. Visitation was held Sunday, May 4, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home – 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service was held on Monday, May 5, 2008, Rev. Danny Smith officiated. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Port George. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a Charity of Choice.
