Keith Willard Trimper, 14, Digby, passed away April 24, 2008, in Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Born in Digby, he was a son of Dale and Lisa (Goucher) Trimper. Keith was a grade 8 student at Digby Regional School High School. He enjoyed playing soccer and riding his bike. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church Youth Group and enjoyed being with family and friends.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Brandon, at home; maternal grandparents, Fred and Nancy Goucher, Digby; paternal grandparents, Willard and Lottie Trimper, Waldec, Annapolis County; maternal great-grandmother, Marguerite Como, Digby; and several aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by maternal great-grandparents, Tom and Muriel Goucher, and Wilfred Como; paternal great-grandparents, Willard and Barb Trimper, and Bernard and Lena Comeau. Visitation was held Tuesday, April 29, at Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. Funeral service was held April 30 in Digby Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Andrew Maves officiating. Edith Lyle Rainforth - 90, Berwick, Kings Co. passed away peacefully on Thursday April 24, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in 1918 in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (Balcom) Fitch. She was a graduate of Mack Business College, and worked at the Stevens Store in Kingston. Following her marriage, she lived first in Windermere and then for many years in Morristown where she took an active role both on the family farm and in her community. In recent years she had lived in Grand View Manor Apartments and then in Fundy Villa. Edith was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Morristown Baptist Church for over thirty years and was a Dominion Life Member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society. Edith had attended the Morristown United Baptist Church and upon moving to Berwick attended the Berwick Baptist Church. She quilted for the Canadian Red Cross during the Second World War and for more than a quarter century afterward. She was well known for the even stitches in her many pieces of handwork. A founding member of the Morristown Senior’s Club, she greatly enjoyed the activities at the Morristown Community Hall. She was also an enthusiastic participant in many Adult Education courses. Edith’s greatest love was for her family, who were always her first priority. She was predeceased by her husband, Whitney Rainforth, and by her granddaughter, Kristin Rainforth. She is survived by sons, Orland (Cheryl) Rainforth, Morristown, and John (Louise) Rainforth, Berwick; grandsons, Adam (Kathy Ann) Rainforth, Halifax, and Peter (Sarah Leslie) Rainforth, Halifax; sister, Betty Jess, Halls Harbour, and brother, Eldon (Freda) Fitch, Kingston, and many nieces and nephews. Visiting was held 7-9 p.m. on Saturday April 26, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service took place 3:30 p.m. Sunday April 27. Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiated. Burial was in the Morristown Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Grand View Manor or Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. COFFRIN, James A. "Jim" - 58, Arcadia. Jim passed away on April 24, 2008. He was born in Yarmouth on March 21, 1950. Jim was well-known for his deep love of family and had a great appreciation for his friends. Jim had a gift for visiting and encouraging those suffering with an illness. Jim treasured his animals, and was passionate about antique cars and participated in many car shows. Jim served as an auxiliary member of the RCMP for 15 years and took great pride as a civilian member of the RCMP in his position as a Telecoms Operator. He was highly respected by his co-workers and peers. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Coffrin; daughter, Amanda Coffrin; son, Trevor Coffrin (Anita); stepdaughter, Tasha Gregory (Jason); stepson, Justin Hicks; grandchildren, Sydnee and Lauryn Cottreau, Luke and Dylan Scott-Coffrin; mother, Marjorie Coffrin; siblings, Cora Tenaglia, William Coffrin, Carol Coffrin, Ruth Doucette, and Susan MacKinlay. He was predeceased by father, Lawson Coffrin, and infant sister, Pauline. Jim's selfless spirit and kind, generous heart endeared him to those whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed. SPEARS, Arthur John - 80, Yarmouth. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Art on Thursday, April 24, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late John and Arthesa (Polly) Spears. Art graduated from the Dalhousie School of Pharmacy in 1953. He began his career at Ross Drug Store, went on to partner with Alfred Trask at Trask's Drug Store, and owned and operated Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave in partnership with Jim MacLeod until his retirement in 1986. Art was a member of the Yarmouth Volunteer Fire Department, served as Captain of the Reliance Engine Company No. 3, and was named Veteran Firefighter of the Year in 2008. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Yarmouth for many years, and enjoyed the post-meeting card games with this friends. In recent years, Art was involved with the Fundy Southern Model Railroaders Association. He loved sailing and camping, and he and Shirley travelled many miles in their motor home. He was a member of Zion United Baptist Church, serving as both a Deacon and Trustee. Art is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Tidman); daughter, Linda (Allan) Surette, Yarmouth; son, Larry, Halifax; grandchildren, Jennifer, Katherine, Kristian, and Anja; and great-grandchild, Isabelle; brother, Ivan "Ike" (Betty) Spears, Shelburne; sisters, Thelma (Paul) Dobson; Margaret (Howard) Goodwin, Yarmouth; brother-in-law, Wilbur "Sonny" Morton, Argyle; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Florence "Foni" Morton, and daughter-in-law, Barb (MacLennan) Spears. Art was kind, caring and loved by all, and will be greatly missed by his family, whom he cherished. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Margaret Elizabeth Churchill, MD of Hampton, NB, passed away April 25, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Margaret was born 12 January 1934 to Randolf and Eva (Kenney) Churchill of Brass Hill, Shelburne County, NS. She attended Dalhousie University and received a BSc and her Medical Degree in 1960. Following her post graduate work in Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital in London, Ontario, and The Montreal Children’s Hospital, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, for Pediatrics. In 1964 she started a solo Pediatric Practice in Yarmouth, NS until 1990. She was Medical Director of Yarmouth Hospital from 1989 – 1991. She was also Past President of the Nova Scotia Medical Society. For several years she volunteered in Hospital Accreditation in the Maritime Provinces.In 1992, Margaret retired to Hampton, NB. She had a wide variety of interests that included painting and a true love of nature. She made many friends in the Saint John Naturalists Club, the Kings County Historical Society and was an ardent supporter of the Imperial Theatre. She put enthusiasm into everything she undertook and in her own words, “lived by the day and didn’t live by regrets.” She was recognized for outstanding volunteer service to the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre in Hampton. Margaret is servived by cousins: Blanche Baker, Dartmouth, NS; Nettie Kenney, Jordan Falls, NS; John and (Gail) Kenney, Robert and (Lucille) Kenney, Jimmy and (Rosalie) Kenney, all of Barrington, NS; Rosalie (Perry) McMullin, Saint John, NB; Marianne (Perry) Sears, Brass Hills, NS; Jay Perry, Halifax, NS; and Michael Perry, NWT.A special thanks to Dr. M. Burnell, Dr. W. Smith and the staff of 5A-South; Dr. Chris O’Brien and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, and to Dr. Ed Phillips. Your kindness was truly appreciated. NIINEP, L. Merlyn (White) – St. Catharines, Ontario It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of “Merlie” at Hospice Niagara, St. Catharines, Ontario on April 23, 2008. Born October 26, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys (Hayes) White of Phinney’s Cove, Nova Scotia. She leaves to mourn sisters Doris Hamilton and Roberta White, both of Bridgetown, N.S., sister-in-law Marjorie White, Clarence, N.S., brother-in-law Laurie Rafuse, Middleton, N.S., and several very dear nieces and nephews in Ontario and Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by husband Ulo formerly of Estonia, brother Edward and his wife Joyce, brother Frank, sister Delma Eldred and her husband Jack, and sister Gloria Rafuse. Very dear to Merlie was her Church family at Main Street Baptist Church., Niagara Falls where she served as financial secretary for thirty three years. Also her Club girls – a group of young ladies who met more than fifty years ago and continue to meet monthly today. She showed her culinary talents – never missing a birthday with that special cake, and her ability to produce a well tailored garment was evident in her dress. Merlie was always ready with a helping hand to those in need. She supported many good causes. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service was held April 26 at Main Street Baptist Church with interment in Fairview Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
