Last week a streak of vandalism was reported throughout town that included three local businesses and a graveyard.

Liverpool RCMP are investigating the acts of vandalism where the KFC, Pharmasave, curling rink and United Baptist Graveyard on Church Street were defaced with graffiti.

Two old gravestones were also broken in half.

“It is a pretty senseless crime when people start attacking the dead,” said Reverend Greg Denton of the United Baptist Church in Liverpool.

Constable Grant Webber of the Queens RCMP said that police have no leads yet but are hoping neighbours who may have seen anything will step forward.

He said that youth crimes such as graffiti have come down quite a bit after a group was charged, but new people coming into the area have started the random acts of vandalism again.

He did say that what these youths are doing is not the norm.

“I would say most of the kids here are good, hard-working kids and that it is the other 10 per cent that give trouble,” he said.

“If members of the RCMP were to walk into the high school I don’t think that they would recognize anybody.”

He added that the ones they do know in town are frequent deviants of the law.

He is unsure if the crimes are connected.

Anyone having any information should contact the RCMP at 354-5721 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
