April 13 to April 19, 2008 continued O’LEARY, Barbara M. - 88, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, Saturday, April 19, 2008. Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Whynot) Jollimore. Barbara was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church for many years. She is survived by her son Robert and daughter-in-law Petra of Prague, CZ. and grandson Adam Patrick; sister Pearl Heeney of Liverpool. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Owen; sister Eleanor and brothers Douglas and Maurice. Funeral service was held Saturday, April 26, 2008 from St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Liverpool. Father Brian Murphy officiated. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool. Donations may be made to St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. April 13 to April 19, 2008 continued CROSS, Elizabeth Bell - 86, Windsor, Hants Co., formerly of Digby, Digby Co., passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, after a lengthy illness in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Leigh and Bessie (Bell) Marshall. Betty was a graduate of Digby High School. During most of her adult life she served as a health care provider in various hospitals throughout the province of Nova Scotia. For many years Betty was an active member of the Upper Vaughan Hospital Auxiliary. She was also faithful member of the Upper Vaughan Baptist Church. Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Vernon; sister-in-law, Pearl Conrad, Liverpool; niece, Joyce Crouse, Mississauga, Ont.; nephews, Fred Conrad, Okotoks, Alta.; James Conrad, Fairview, and Terry Conrad, Liverpool. She was predeceased by brothers, Alford, Kenneth and Winston, and sister, Florence. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation by request. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Her husband, Vernon, wishes to express his appreciation to the doctors and staff of both the Valley Regional Hospital and Hants Community Hospital for their dedication during Betty’s time in hospital. April 13 to April 19, 2008 continued BOATES BOATES, Dwight Reginald – September 24, 1943 to April 18, 2008 Dwight Boates passed away peacefully on April 18, 2008 at his home in Elberta, Alabama at the age of 64. Born in Wilmot, NS, he served in the Canadian Air Force and at the time of his death, was the owner of Gulf Breeze Heating & Air. He is survived by his wife Sheryl, daughters Jillian Jones of Stapleton, AL, Alyssa Boates of Elberta and Amy Parlee of N.S., sons Kody and Trevor Boates of Elberta, Michael Norton of Ontario and Christopher Norton of NS, his mother Olive Boates of Wilmot, sisters Pat Potts, Pam Roberts and Barbara Frank of England, and brother John Franklin of Ontario and seven grandchildren. Dwight was predeceased in death by his father John Franklin of England. A memorial service took place on April 24, 2008 in Foley, Alabama. Arrangements are being made for a memorial service in Middleton, Nova Scotia in June. A future announcement will give date and place.
April 13 to April 19, 2008 continued Edna Karmal Duggan-Sibley, age 93, of Mount Uniacke, Hants County, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Q. E. II, V. G. Site, Halifax. Born January 9, 1915, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late George and Mabel (Warnell) Robinson. She is survived by daughters, Carmel Bell, Oshawa, Ontario; Faith Steadman, Bowmanville, Ontario; sons, David (Margaret) Duggan, Windsor; George (Mary “Tex”) Duggan, Lakelands; Niles (Beverley) Duggan, St. Albert, Alberta; step-daughter, Sheila Shellnut, Dartmouth; step-son, Kenneth (Rowena) Sibley, Meaghers Grant; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Elmer Ernest Sibley; her first husband, Edward Lawrence Duggan; step-son, Roderick Sibley; sisters, Hazel Hayden; Ruth Daine; Muriel Wright; and Olive Robinson. She will be fondly remembered by all her extended family and friends. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Clarence Bungay officiated, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edna were requested to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. April 13 to April 19, 2008 continued Tucker, Orrie - age 80, a lifelong resident of Framingham, died Thursday April 17, 2008 at Metro West Medical Center. He was the husband of Catherine (Mitchell) Tucker for 45 years. Born in Framingham, he was a son of the late Mancer and Irene (Tucker) Tucker. A graduate of Framingham High School with the class of 1946, he served as class president and captain of the Flyer Football squad. Mr. Tucker worked as a youth with his father at the family farmstead in Framingham. A decorated veteran of the US Army Airborne Rangers, he served continuously from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1959. A veteran of 2 combat tours in Korea, Mr. Tucker earned the combat infantry streamer, the Bronze Arrowhead and the Bronze Star for the first parachute jump behind enemy lines at Munsan-ni. His service continued through 1953 with a non-combat role in Korea and stateside in Nevada where he helped in government atomic testing, which, according to published reports, caused many cases of cancer in military personnel. Returning home after his military service, Mr. Tucker worked as a self-employed Tax Preparer, primarily from his home. An avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, he enjoyed gardening and cooking, fishing locally and vacationing in Nova Scotia. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Orrie M.Tucker, his wife Mary of Auburn, and two grandchildren, Emmitt J. Tucker and Ahlea R. Tucker, brother Donald Tucker of Boston and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late: Grover, Earl, Bert, Mancer, Ella, Julia, Lelia and Evelyn Tucker and Royal, Sherman, Samuel and Corrine Bolling. A funeral service was held Tuesday April 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Boyle Brothers Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham with Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell officiating. Burial followed in the Soldier's Lot at Edgell Grove Cemetery, Grove St., Framingham. Many relatives from Nova Scotia attended the funeral.
