Horton rugby teams undefeated in early going

The Valley High School Rugby League is up-and-running for the 2008 season, with seven boys’ and seven girls’ teams included in the competition for the league titles.
Play got underway Tuesday, April 15 and will continue Tuesdays and Thursdays (as well as an occasional Saturday) through May, with the league semi-finals and finals set for May 29 and 31 and provincials June 6-7 hosted by the Capital Region.
Following play Thursday, April 24, Horton and Kings-Edgehill led the girls’ standings with 2-0 records. West Kings and Avon View ‘A’ were at 2-1, Avon View ‘B’ and Middleton at 1-2 and Central Kings at 0-3.
On the boys’ side, Avon View was 3-0 and Horton 2-0, West Kings at 2-1, Kings-Edgehill at 1-1, Middleton at 1-2, Central Kings at 1-3 and Digby 0-4.
On April 15, Avon View topped Kings-Edgehill 20-13, West Kings blanked Digby 31-0 and Central Kings edged Middleton 20-19 in boys’ play.
West Kings humbled Avon View ‘B’ 44-0, Kings-Edgehill shut out Avon View ‘A’ 20-0 and Middleton blanked Central Kings 10-0 in girls’ action.
On April 17, West Kings edged Central Kings 19-17, Avon View trumped Digby 47-5 and Horton began its season with a low-scoring 3-0 shutout of Middleton.
In girls’ play, Horton also got off to a good start with a 15-0 shutout of Middleton, West Kings blanked Central Kings 51-0 and Avon View ‘A’ won 29-0 over Avon View ‘B’.
On Tuesday, April 22, the Middleton boys topped Digby 10-5, Kings-Edgehill defeated West Kings 31-12 and Horton beat Central Kings 39-17.
On the girls’ side, Avon View ‘B’ won 15-10 over Middleton, Kings-Edgehill blanked West Kings 20-0 and Horton shut out Central Kings 32-0.
On Thursday, April 24, Avon View swept a pair of games from Central Kings, with the boys winning 24-0 and the girls 56-0. In the only other game played, the Kings-Edgehill boys topped Digby 58-7. The West Kings at Horton games were postponed.
