Junior high hosting ping pong championships
The gymnasium will be full of tables, teams and ping-pong balls on May 1 as the South Queens Junior High School hosts the Western Regional Table Tennis Championships.
“There will probably be nine or 10 teams from Windsor right around to Chester,” said Vice Principal Terry Metcalf. “Most of the kids on our teams are novice, but they’re doing well.”
There are three divisions, junior which includes Grades 7-8 students, intermediate for Grades 9-10 and seniors for Grades 11 and 12.
There is a boys and girls division in each one, he added.
A team consists of three or four players.
The SQJHS teams started practicing the first week of April.
The school has offered table tennis as a sport for the last 10 years or so and hosted the Western Regional Table Tennis Championships roughly five to six years ago, said Metcalf.
