Like a train moving forward, the Region of Queens Municipality continues to advance the recreation facility project, with council approving a name and logo.

The official name “Queens Place” was approved by council on April 21.
“It’s a place that we anticipate will be a gathering place for people across Queens and for people outside the community as well,” said Mayor John Leefe. “Council identifies that as an exciting venue that is appropriately named after the entire community.”

The region also unveiled the official logo for Queens Place.

“The logo is shown in primary colours,” he said. “Primary colours are the best and basic colours to use to speak loudly of what is being advertised and in breaking up the various primary colors is a symbolic person.”

The four corners of Queens County and the colours represent our ocean, mineral wealth, forestry and agriculture and our “beautiful sunset.”

Greg Tutty designed the logo.

Work continues on the site of Queens Place, with the demolition of the family dwelling in front of the former Joval clothing plant. The region will tear down the former Joval plant as well.

“It has to get cleaned out first,” explained the mayor, “which in itself is a significant challenge; the building is in very bad shape.”

The Region of Queens Municipality will also have a health and fitness awareness week June 9 – 15.

“It’s a new concept and we think it really all flows into this wellness theme, which Queens Place is a very important part,” stated Mayor Leefe.
