Benefit Gospel Show: The show will be held Sun., May 4 at 2 p.m. at the Canning Fire Hall. Come out and show your support for a cancer patient in need. Local talent will include Matt Lunn, Lois Lutz, and Graham Moorehead.
Canning Legion Ticket Auction will be held Sun., May 4 beginning at 11 a.m. for viewing with draws at 1 p.m. All items are new.

Ross Creek Centre for the Arts: Family Arts Sunday - From costumed crusaders to monkeys and mayhem, come and explore the world of masks and mystery May 4 from 1-4 p.m. in preparation for Apple Blossom. Various masks, activities, costume creations as well as a giant puppet-building workshop. Open to all ages.
Admission is a suggested donation of $5 per person or $15 per family.

Learn to dance with the cast of Hairspray. If you loved the movie then here’s your chance to learn from the pros. The program is taught by featured actor/dancers from the film and will include four hours of class, learning four different dances from the film.
The workshop is choreography specialized, meaning students will learn choreography used in the film and will focus not only on dance techniques but also on characterization and acting. Two programs are available at a cost of $100 per class, April 29 or 30 from 4-8 p.m. each evening. Space is limited.

Bookmobile returns at the Canning Lions Hall Tues., April 29, from 7-8 p.m.
Dessert Party and Fashion show featuring the Jelly Cupboard’s Heather Lohr. This season’s jewelry, purses, scarves and shoes will be showcased Wed., May 7 from 7-9 p.m. at the Pereaux Baptist Church. Doors open at 6:30 with show at 7 p.m. Admission is $6.
There will also be a bake table, silent auction, and accessory show sponsored by the Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Sunday Flea Markets at the Canning Lions Hall: The hall is open to sellers from 6-8 a.m. and buyers from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables are $5 each and a canteen is available. Contact Don at 678-5525 for details.

A blood collection clinic takes place at the Canning Pharmasave Tuesday and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m. at a cost of $6. A free monthly cholesterol and blood pressure clinic is also available. Seniors day is the last Thursday of the month.
The Cornwallis District New Horizon Seniors Group meets each Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Lions Hall in Canning. Seniors, age 55 and up, enjoy an afternoon with a brief business meeting, a lunch, and then games like cards, crib and crokinole and an occasional day trip. New members welcome. Annual fee only $5.
The Canning Seniors have recently purchased a computer and will be teaching basic computer and Internet skills to those interested. This is a free service for members with several interested individuals ready to begin lessons. Contact 582-7346 for details.
Glooscap Elementary School: Glooscap Elementary School - there will be an early dismissal of 11:05 a.m. May 5 and an assembly May 6.
Primary Registration will be held May 12 and 13 for any child age five on or before Dec. 31, 2008. A reminder to parents and guardians that students in Grade 1, Mrs. Lightfoot and Mrs. Champion’s classes, will have no school on those two days.
Thanks to students and parents for collecting grocery receipts for the library. Receipts can also be collected from Boston Pizza in New Minas, who are also supporting fundraising efforts at the school.
Northeast Kings Educational Centre: The next Music Parents Association general meeting will be held Tues., April 29 at 7 p.m. in the library. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Mon., May 5 will be Grade 9 orientation day, which is a day set aside to give Grade 8 students the opportunity to visit high school and receive helpful information. There will be no school for the current Grade 9 students on that day.
Grad Yard Sale: This is the largest fundraiser for the Grad Committee and will be held in May. Please save your yard sale items as all donations are appreciated.
Photo Club is for students from Grades 9-12 and any adults wanting to learn about “old school” photography. You will need a SLR film camera, film and paper, and will learn how to process film, develop prints and take artistic black and white photos.
