School board seeking land proposals for new Yarmouth high school

The deadline to submit proposals to the school board for land that could possibly serve as the site of a new Yarmouth high school is fast approaching.

The board has set Friday, April 25, 4 p.m., as the deadline for receiving proposals.

The Tri-County Regional School Board is seeking proposals from property owners for

the acquisition of land to locate a new Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School.

According to the criteria the board is seeking, the size of the site shall be between 10 and 20 acres, and a site with public sewer and water is preferred. The site must also meet minimum access and egress regulations.

The location and selling price of the property is to be included in the proposal.

It was just a few weeks ago that Education Minister Karen Casey announced a new $24.9-million high school will be built for Yarmouth. The intention is to do the design work and site selection first, with construction starting in 2009.

The school is slated to open in September 2011.
