April 20 to April 26, 2008 HATT, Whylie Edmund "Unk", 76, of Windsor, formerly of Union Corner, Hants County, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born April 30, 1931, at the home of his maternal grandparents, the late Dennis and Viola (Hennigar) Walker, Chester Grant, Lunenburg County, Whylie was the son of the late Murray Hatt (1977) and Muriel (Walker) Hatt (2002). He dearly loved his parents, both sets of grandparents, and loved to tease them until Grammie Hatt would say, "Phew! Phew! go away boy", while doubling over with laughter. Whereas, Grammie Walker did not take kindly to the teasing, but that did not stop him. During his working years, he was known as "The Apple Man" selling door-to-door. He missed contact with the people he considered interesting and good friends. He was very humble and did not want to be a 'bother", at home, or in the hospital. He always had concern for other's health, even though he too was not well. Although he struggled with severe ailments, he always saw the positive and had great faith in the medical professionals. Whylie is survived by his sister, Winnie Holden, Windsor; niece, Marlene Holden (Gary Harpell, Unk's best buddy) Dartmouth; aunts, Marion Lenihan, New Ross; Faye Alders, New Minas; Rena Walker, Chester Grant; Jean Hatt, Mahone Bay; many cousins. He will be dearly missed by Suzie and Sandi Rose, his four legged pals, as well as Hailey, Tasha, and Billy Bob, whom he visited in Dartmouth. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Moran and Harriett (Hatt) Hatt, Beech Hill, Lunenburg County; brother-in-law, Eugene Holden (1967); also an infant sister. He lived in Union Corner, Hants County where he developed lifelong friendships. During the last eight years he resided in Windsor with his sister, Winnie; also Suzie and Sandi Rose. There was no visitation as requested by Whylie. A commital service will take place at Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor on Saturday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Whylie, may be made to the West Hants SPCA; Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, Dartmouth; Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association. As Whylie would do, show kindness towards the helpless, such as your pets, the sick and the needy. Whylie will be very disappointed if there is no lemon pie being served in heaven. If there is no lemon pie, date squares will do. Sincere thank-you to all the medical "angels" who cared for Whylie during his long sickness. Special thanks to Dr. Louis Fernandez, Dr. Mark Kazimirski, Dr. Cathryn Smith, all caregivers and anyone involved who treated Whylie with respect and dignity. They will always be remembered as a good part of his dear life. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor (798-2232).
