April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued Allan Basque (Arthur Beyea) 1977 - 2008 - It is with a sad heart that Akino Basque, beloved wife of Allan Basque (Arthur Beyea) announces his sudden passing on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 30 years of age. Allan was born on October 20, 1977 in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick. He married his wife, Akino, on May 17, 2003 in Chiba, Japan. He worked in the oil industry. Starting as a lease hand, he worked himself up to a crew supervisor. Allan was a spiritual believer with a true sense of self and centered chi. His high respect for mother nature was followed by a need for religious understandings which he actively pursued. Allan was a proud and generous man who always found time to share his knowledge with others. He was strong in mind, will and body. As a self taught martial artist, he enjoyed the power of improving his mind to enrich his body. He had many interests, but, a couple in particular including his motorcycle (Stella) and an obsession with polishing boots since the age of 13. He was loving and caring towards his family and friends. He loved his family and had a strong sense of loyalty. Taking time to participate in other activities would only mean less time with his family and friends. His six-month stay with Akino and her family in Japan gave him an opportunity to study various forms of martial arts. Life was a constant challenge and achievement for Allan. He began his adulthood with little to nothing and through way of his focused determination accomplished much for himself, and his young family. Along with his wife Akino, Allan will be remembered by his little boy, Chace Kai and memories of him will be shared with his little baby, to be born in September; his parents, Allan W. (Sherry) Beyea and Kathy (Gary) Basque; two sisters in Nova Scotia, Kathie-Lynn Beyea (Ron) and Sandra D. Beyea Smith (Tony) and a sister in New Brunswick, Joanne; a long-time friend, Joe Comeau of Windsor, Nova Scotia; nephews, Daniel (15) and Mason (3 months) and nieces, Deserae, (10) and Darian (6); cousin, Stephen (Bonnie) Beyea of St. John, NB. He was predeceased by one brother, George Arthur (Bud); paternal grandparents, Helen and Allan Beyea; maternal grandfather, Arthur Basque and an uncle, Douglas Beyea. The family would like to extend special thanks to Chantal of the Medicine Hat Hospital Social Work Department, and Susan of the Redcliff RCMP Victims Service Unit for assisting Akino. Also, thank-you to the Redcliff RCMP Officers for their assistance and kindness. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued Roy Parker Ward - 93, died peacefully at the Valley Regional Hospital in the on April 8, 2008. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the H.C. The Funeral service took place at the Harmony Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, Pastor Chuck McGuire officiated. Burial was in the family plot in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued DeLong, Randall Guy - 75, of Caledonia, Queens County, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Randall was a self employed truck driver in his early years. He later became employed with Bowater Mersey Paper Company as a truck driver and later as a mechanic, retiring after 17 years of service. He was a long time member of the North Queens Fire Association and a member and deacon of the Caledonia United Baptist Church. Born in Albany New, Queens County, he was the son of the late Guy and Pearle (Sheffer) DeLong. He is survived by his wife, the former Velena Conrad; daughters Valerie DeLong, of Dayspring, Ann Marie (Wayne) Crouse, of North Brookfield, Michelle (Bill) Forrest, of Caledonia, Sandra (Ronald) Ellis, of Kempt; sons: Brenton (Cathryn), of Dartmouth, Gary, of Prince George, British Columbia, Glenn of Liverpool, Stanley (Audrey) of Edmonton, Alberta, David (Carrie), of Northfield, Karl (Kelly Sue) Carver, of New Grafton; 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; sister Phyllis (Hubert) Oickle, of Dartmouth; and brother Donald (Rosalie), of Kempt. He was predeceased by his first wife Marguerite (Minard); and son Brian. Funeral Service was held Sunday, April 13, 2008, from the Caledonia United Baptist Church. Rev. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued BUCHANAN, Lawrence F. - 70, of Liverpool, passed away suddenly Friday, April 11, 2008 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Brass Hill, Barrington, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Williams) Buchanan. Lawrence was a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces serving with the 2nd Battalion Guards, Blackwatch and was an active member of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool. He was a welder for Bowater Mersey Paper Company until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Anne (Harding); daughter Agatha (John) Croall, of Sherness, England; sons Jack (Marla) of Ottawa and Willard (Kim) of Brussells, Belguim. four grandchildren: Kyle, Connor, Charis and Nathan; sisters Rose Mosher and Gertrude Buchanan, both of Liverpool. He was predeceased by sisters: Agatha Walshe, Elsie Mahon, Etta Moulton and brother Willard. A legion memorial service was held Tuesday, April 15. Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Rev. Donald Lawton officiated. Burial will be at a late date following cremation. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued BLANCHARD, Norman Percy - 78, Ardoise, formerly a 56 year resident of Ellershouse, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born April 24, 1929, in Milford Station, he was a son of the late Sedley and Florence (MacDonald) Blanchard. Norman was a man with very special talents in everything that he did. His grandchildren thought of him as “Superman”and that he could do anything at all. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, the former Ruby MacLeod; sons, Stephen (Phyllis), Ranald (Darlene), and Richard; grandchildren, Brian (Krista), Brad, Jacqueline (Don), Denise, and Darrell; great-granddaughter, Olivia Anne Marie; sister, Mary (Brian) Norman; brothers, Joseph (Clara), David (Gloria), Charles (Dorothy), Robert S. (Carol), and sister-in-law, Beverly. Norman was predeceased by his daughter, Marlene (1996); sister, Julia in infancy; brothers, George and Ranald in infancy. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued James Dean “Jim” Snowdon – The death of James Dean “Jim” Snowdon, age 60 of Kentville, Nova Scotia occurred Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville from the ravages of cancer. Born in Sackville, New Brunswick on September 16, 1947, he was the son of the late Walter and Elfleda (Spencer) Snowdon of Wood Point, New Brunswick. He was educated at Mount Allison University and UNB and was active in the fields of culture, heritage and education. He was a dealer in antiques and art and taught courses in History and Canadian Studies at Acadia University for many years. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Nussey); daughter, Sarah, Halifax; step-daughter, Bree-Ann (Stephen) Lightfoot, Hammonds Plains; step-son, Carey Blair, Halifax and two grandchildren, Abigail and Seth Lightfoot; sister, Doris (Ronald) Dummer, Cambridge, Ontario; brothers, Donald (Colleen), Cambridge, Ontario; William (Elizabeth) and Dale (Brenda), both of Wood Point, New Brunswick; Richard (Shirley), Quispamsis, New Brunswick; as well as many very special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Catherine Hicks and brother, Robert Snowdon. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be buried in the Westcock Cemetery, Westcock, New Brunswick at a later date. No flowers please. A celebration and reception will be held in the near future and friends will be invited to share their thoughts in word, song and poetry. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued Campbell, Earle Alvah, 87, of Greenfield, Hants County, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Hants Community Hospital. Born in Greenfield; he was the son of the late Alvah & Vera (Fenton) Campbell. Earle enjoyed working in the woods and had also worked as a carpenter and farmer. He will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, strong spirit, and sense of humour. Surviving are his wife the former Mary O’Brien; daughter, Teressa (Andrew) van Oostrum, Grafton, Kings County; twin grandsons, Evan and Sean; brother, Willard (Jean), Greenfield; twin sister, Ethel (Anthony) Parker, South Rawdon; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Carl and Claude. Visitation was 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, where funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008. April 6 to April 12, 2008 continued Stephen Ernest Edmonds - With deepest sorrow we announce the sudden passing on April 11, 2008, of our son, Stephen Ernest Edmonds, 33, in Wabasca, Alta. Stephen was the much-loved son of Roger Edmonds and Marie (Riggs) Edmonds-Greene. Stephen was born May 3, 1974, in Halifax, moved to Digby County, and spent many years in Bear River. Stephen attended school in East Lawrencetown, Bear River, Digby, Annapolis and Brockville, Ont.. After graduating with honours from Grenville Christian College as male Prefect of the Year 1994 and salutatorian of the graduating class of 1994, he settled in Ottawa for a number of years with wife, Rebecca Officer, before heading out West. For the last two years, he worked in northern Alberta. Stephen always had a love for the woods, fishing, camping and drawing. He extremely enjoyed his trips into White Sand Lake, Digby County, so he was very much at home in the wilds of Alberta. His very favourite pastime was cooking and barbequing for whomever he could, whenever he could. He was becoming quite the chef. His wonderful zany sense of humour and his smile could light up an entire room. He will be ever so sadly missed. He is survived by his parents, Marie and Roger; sisters, Leanne Melanson (Gerald), Andrea Edmonds, Shannon Cormier (James); stepfather, Burton Greene, and stepmother Lynn Edmonds; stepbrother Philip Greene; stepsister Jaymie Burke (Paul); half-brothers Joshua and Sam Edmonds; half-sister Sarah Edmonds; niece Emma Burke and nephews, Jacob Burke, Adrian Cormier, Travis and Dalton Melanson, and Darcy, Dakota and Jordan Greene. Funeral service was held in Advent Christian Church, Bear River. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River. The family would like to thank the many friends, both near and far, and the community of Bear River for all the help and support during this time. Special thanks to Pastor Earl Waterman and Pastor Ken Perkins for officiating, Rev. Gordon Neish, the ladies auxiliary and congregation of Advent Christian Church, J.A.
