The Events column is for non-profit listings of events in Digby County. Items may run twice for free before the event’s date. Items can be emailed to info@digbycourier.ca, faxed to 245-6136 or mailed to the Digby Courier at 124 Water St., P.O. Box 670, Digby, N.S., B0V 1A0, attention: Events. Deadline for submitting listings for the upcoming issue is Thursday at 4 p.m.


April 17 - Parents and boys and girls 6 to 19 wanting to play junior golf are invited to a meeting at 7 p.m. in Digby Curling Club. Funding asistance may be available for some youngsters. For information, call 245-6985.

April 19 - Oakdene Centre coffeehouse at 7:30 p.m., featuring singer-songerwriter Jakki Rogue. Sponsored by Bear Rhythm Society.

April 19 - Spring Fling in Royal Canadian Legion, Bear River, at 9 a.m. Crafts, baked goods, yard sale items. Seafood chowder and hot dogs at 11 a.m. Tables available, call Mary 467-3097 or Daphnie 467-0128.

April 19 - Firemen’s breakfast in Smith’s Cove Fire Hall-Community Centre from 7:30–10 a.m. Proceeds to fire department.

April 20 - Organ, vocal concert in Digby Baptist Church at 7 p.m. with Douglas Hales at the organ, Robert Milne, vocalist and the Fundy Chorale Singers. Free will offering and reception to follow. All welcome.

April 21 - Join Dawn Thomas and Rita Wall to share support and solutions for caregivers. Digby Weslyan Church from 9–11:30 a.m. For details, call Dawn Thomas 245-2579.

April 23 - Digby deputy mayor Sherri Lewis speaking on increasing women’s participation in municipal government at 6:30 p.m. in Isaiah W. Wilson Memorial Library.

April 23 - Movie night at Grace United Church, Digby, showing ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’ at 7 p.m. Free admission. All welcome.

April 25-26 - Digby & Area Theatre Society presenting play ‘Annie Kempton’ at 7 p.m. in Digby Community Theatre, DRHS.

April 26 - Auction in Royal Canadian Legion, Bear River, at 7 p.m. Ham and Scallop supper at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds for BREDS to repair Trading Company Building.

April 26 - Crib tournament in Royal Canadian Legion, Digby, starting at 9:30 a.m. Phone 245-4070 for information.

April 29 - Eastern Woodland Metis Nation general meeting at 7 p.m. in Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61, Yarmouth. Members asked to attend.

April 30 - Seniors’ breakfast in Superstore Community Room from 9-11 a.m. with discussion on ambulance operations, costs. Free to seniors. Call Dawn Thomas for details, 245-2579.

April 30 - Dutch auction in Royal Canadian Legion, Digby, at 6:30 p.m. Bid with quarters. Donations appreciated. For information, call 245-7540.

May 7 - SEA community forum will seek views on recommendations in Strategic Environmental Assessment regarding tidal power. From 7-9 p.m. in Cornwallis Room, Annapolis Basin Conference Centre.

Thursdays in April – Free income tax help at Isaiah W. Wilson Memorial Library from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Trained volunteers. Bring T4s and other tax-related documents (health receipts, etc) to complete tax forms. First-come, first-served basis. Call 245-2163 for information.

To June 11 - Gallery exhibit with new works by local artists featuring sketches and colourful paintings by Rolande Comeau.

MONDAYS - Digby Badminton Club at Digby Regional High School runs Monday nights until May 8. Cost is $35 for the season or $3 per night. Call 245-3759 for more information.

TUESDAYS - Morning fun for babies and caregivers from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Isaiah W. Wilson Memorial Library, Digby. Program presented by Family Resource Centre and Public Health. Phone 245-2163 for more information.

TUESDAYS - Digby East Fish and Game Association bingo in clubhouse at 7 p.m.

MONTHLY - Chronic pain support group meets the last Monday of every month at Digby Superstore from 7-9 p.m.

THURSDAYS - 603rd Weymouth Royal Canadian Army Cadets meets in Weymouth Consolidated School from 6:30 - 9 p.m. Looking for new members aged 12-18. Contact Lieut. Robert Sweeney at (902) 837-7419 after 6 p.m.

Last Tuesday of month - MS support group meetings in Digby General Hospital cafeteria from 6:30–8 p.m. For information, call John Bent at 245-6707.
