HUPMAN, Marjorie Loantha, 89, of Shelburne, formerly of Lockeport, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point. Born in Lockeport, she was a daughter of the late Seldon and Edith (Hardy) Hupman. Marjorie was a Postal Clerk in Lockeport for many years. She was a member of the Lockeport United Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society of that church as well. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Marjorie loved to travel world wide and during her lifetime visited several countries. She was very fond of her pet cat, Muffin. Marjorie resided in Shelburne at Mary’s Abide-a-While for the past seven years. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Noble, Carlos, Howard and Victor; sisters, Modena, Annetta and Leona. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from the Lockeport United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Hammond officiating. Interment was in Allendale Cemetery. SWINAMER, Madalean M., 93, Windsor, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, with her loving family by her side. Born in Falmouth, she was a daughter of the late J. Starr and Mary Jane (Patterson) Stoddard. Madalean was a well-known seamstress, and taught the Adult Sewing Class at night school for several years. She also did volunteer work and was a former member of the Gliders Club of Windsor. Madelean enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great comfort and joy. Michelle will have the “tie-breaker” with you when we meet again. She is survived by daughter Laura-Jane Swinamer, sons Reginald, Earle, Robert “Bob” (Jane), Reid (Debbie), sister Myrtle Lyons, brother Perley (Minnie), sister-in-law Marjorie Lockhart, grandchildren Brad and Michelle Leopold, Aaron (Jennifer), Alisha, Amanda, Heidi and Sara Swinemar, great grandchildren Hannah and Liam with one great grandson to be born in June, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Walter, brother George, and great granddaughter Breanna. Cremation has taken place at Mom’s request. No visitation by family request. BLINN, M. Elizabeth, 86, of Belliveau’s Cove, died April 6, 2008, in Digby General Hospital. Funeral April 9 in St. Bernard Church, with burial in the Parish Cemetery.

CLARK, Doris Elizabeth, 89, of Northhills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry, formerly of Digby, died April 6, 2008, in the home. Funeral April 12 in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal, with burial in Stoney Beach Cemetery, Granville Beach.

Helen Elizabeth Parsons – 70, of Kentville, passed away Monday, April 7, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of Arthur and Evelyn (Powers) Brown. She had been a homemaker who enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and playing bingo. Helen had a great love for her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by her husband, Ernest “Ernie” Parsons; five daughters, Gale Parker, Berwick; Cathy Day, Shirley (Larry) Crocker, Linda (Stephen) Martin and Paula (Dennis) Mitchell, all of Kentville; a son, Gary (Gladys) Parsons, Gaspereau; three sisters, Geraldine Forest, Sackville; Shirley Rose and Grace Rose, both of Hamilton, Ontario; a brother, James “Jim” (Susan) Brown, Centreville; 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur “Buzz” Brown. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Robert Billings officiated. Marjorie Irene DeEll - 82, Aylesford, Kings Co. passed away Monday April 7, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, Annapolis Co. she was a daughter of the late Allister & Hattie (Smith) Rhoddy. Marjorie was a life member of the Burlington & District Women’s Institute and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Aylesford & District Fire Department. Surviving are her companion, Donald Taylor, Aylesford; son, Clinton (his companion, Christine Atwell of Aylesford) DeEll, Grand View Manor, Berwick; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Willis “Billy” Rhoddy, Hemford, Lunenburg Co. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Percy DeEll; son, Clarence “Chuck” Rhoddy. Visitation for Marjorie took place 7-9 p.m. Friday April 11, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday April 12. STARRATT, Starr Clifford - 78, Bishopville, passed away Monday, April 7, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on July 9, 1929, in Hantsport, he was a son of the late Charles and Lena (Harvey) Starratt. Starr retired after 25 years of service in the Shipping and Maintenance Department at Canadian Keyes Fibre, Hantsport. He was an honorary member of the Hantsport Lions Club and a member of Hantsport Baptist Church. Starr is survived by his loving wife, the former Joan L. Lunn; children, Richard (Brenda), Bishopville; Evelyn (Danny), Bishopville; Joan, Bishopville; Tony, at home; grandchildren, Starr and Joey, Three Mile Plains; Linda, Bishopville; Michael, Hantsport; Laura, Hantsport; Sarah, Bishopville; Amber and Evan, Martins River, Chester; great-grandchildren, Ritchie and Josh, Three Mile Plains; Jersy, Bishopville; Seth, Martins River; Chester; sister, Janet Thompson, Middleton. He was predeceased by brothers, Ralph, Charles “Bus”, Victor, and Herman; sisters, Ceva, Dora, Nina, Honey, Lily-Mae, Alwen, and Irma. LALONDE, Guy Joseph - 61, Lower Vaughan, passed away suddenly Monday, April 7, 2008. Born in Ottawa, Ontario. Guy retired after a long career with Rockwell International (Allen-Bradley). Guy was a member of the Chalet Hamlet RCMP/COPS program and also involved in the South West Hants Fire Society. Guy is survived by his loving wife, Monika and two children, Angela (Collins), Newfoundland and Danny, South Korea; grandchildren, Parker and Mi Rae; brothers, John and Robert; sisters, Lise and Jocelyne. Murray Chute Sheffield Sr – 80, of New Minas, Kings County, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born at the Look Off, Kings County, he was a son of the late LeRoy and Della (Blenkhorn) Sheffield. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. He had been employed first with Cornwallis Trucking and was later a long time employee of Archibald Farms. He also worked with Avon Valley, from where he retired. He enjoyed western movies, playing cards and was an avid cane maker. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cat and best friend, Buffy. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara MacKay; three sons, Murray (Leona) and Blair (Wanda), both of Canning, Kings County; Blaine (Janice), Coldbrook, Kings County; a daughter, Sheila (Steve) Morale, Vermont, U.S.A.; four step-daughters, Judy Miller, Bridgewater; Karen (Brian) Walters and Sharon (Michael) Hanlon, both of Dartmouth; Sandra (David) McCarthy, Edmonton; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sylvia Smith; a son, John; a sister, Ruby; five brothers, Hainey, Herb, Earl, Lloyd and Lawson. Cremation has taken place and visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, Reverend Robert Billings officiated. Burial took place in the Arlington Community Cemetery, Arlington, Kings County. Family flowers only by request.
