Car thefts top a busy week for police

Car thieves took a fast trip through the Valley last week. Police were called to Wilmot at 11:10 p.m. on April 11 after a resident witnessed some individuals acting suspiciously. The suspects left behind a parked car. When police attended the scene, they were able to identify the vehicle as being stolen from the Yarmouth area.
The next day at 11:20, police received a report that a vehicle had been stolen the previous night from Melvern Square. This vehicle was later recovered in Ontario.
The Annapolis detachment of the RCMP responded to 83 calls for assistance during the week of April 7 through April 14. Among these were eight false alarms; three false 911s; and one domestic matter. There were no motor vehicle accidents this week.
Following are highlights of these calls:

-- April 7 at 11:21 a.m. Police were called to South Farmington on an assault complaint.
-- April 7 at 1:29 p.m. Police, members of EHS, and volunteers with the Bear River Fire Department were called to the Waldec Line Rd., after an ATV rolled over on the driver. No injuries or damage was reported as a result of the incident.
-- April 7 at 3:25 p.m. Police were called to Lequille following a request to deal with an intoxicated person. The matter was dealt with accordingly.
-- April 7 at 3:40 p.m. A Victoria Vale resident reported an attempted Internet fraud after receiving fraudulent money orders.
-- April 7 at 4:31 p.m. Police assisted members of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to perform a well-being check on some animals in Prince Albert.
-- April 7 at 5:33 p.m. Police received a report that a vehicle driven by youth was squealing tires and speeding along Granville St. in Bridgetown. A patrol was made but failed to locate the vehicle.
-- April 7 at 5:54 p.m. A Lawrencetown resident reported a complaint of property damage after discovering that a fence had been kicked down. A request was made to increase patrols in the area to deal with loitering issues.
-- April 7 at 6:50 p.m. Police received a report that a male was on the top floor balcony of a Middleton apartment building shooting BBs at cans.
-- April 7 at 11:15 p.m. A Wilmot resident reported receiving obscene phone calls.
-- April 8 at 10:30 a.m. Police were called to Waldec after receiving a complaint of a break, enter, and theft into a business.
-- April 8 at 11:07 a.m. Police received a request to assist the Bear River fire department deal with a grassfire near Waldec.
-- April 8 at 12:30 p.m. A Clementsvale resident reported receiving threats via the Internet.
-- April 8 at 1:47 p.m. Police received a report that an individual was dangerously operating a motor vehicle on Highway 10 near Springfield.
-- April 8 at 1:25 p.m. Police were called to a break and enter into a Deep Brook residence. A laptop computer was stolen.
-- April 8 at 3 p.m. A Bridgetown resident reported that youth were causing a disturbance and using foul language.
-- April 8 at 4:13 p.m. Police were called to Meadowvale to assist investigation into a possible arson. During the night, police had been called to a suspicious fire at a residence. The Fire Marshal also attended the scene, which was considerably damaged.
-- April 8 at 5:04 p.m. A Margaretsville resident reported a missing teenager. The teen was later located, unharmed.
-- April 8 at 7:31 p.m. A patrol pulled over an unregistered, uninsured vehicle in West Dalhousie. The driver and one passenger face multiple charges.
-- April 9 at 11:50 a.m. A Bridgetown resident reported a complaint against an intoxicated male.
-- April 9 at 2:49 p.m. A Meadowvale resident reported hearing shots fired.
-- April 9 at 7:43 p.m. A young driver in Middleton was cautioned about driving with excessive speed.
-- April 9 at 9:09 p.m. A South Williamston resident complained that occupants of a gray, four-door sedan were smashing mailboxes. Anyone with any information on this matter is asked to contact police.
-- April 10 at 6:38 a.m. Police received a report that a young woman was causing a disturbance in front of a Middleton business.
-- April 10 at 11:09 a.m. A North Williamston resident reported that his mailbox had been damaged.
-- April 10 at 11:21 a.m. A North Williamston resident reported damage to a mailbox.
-- April 10 at 8 p.m. Police received a report of oversized vehicles on the Fitch Road in Lawrencetown.
-- April 11 at 5:02 p.m. Police received a 911 call from the Purdy Road. A 22-year-old Bear River man was found at his home. Police say that the death was accidental and not suspicious.
-- April 11 at 5:18 p.m. Police received a request to remove an intoxicated male from a residence.
-- April 11 at 7:39 p.m. Police received a report of mischief in Torbrook after two males attempted to break into a church. One male was arrested at the scene. The other male was later identified.
-- April 11 at 7:53 p.m. Police were called to a grassfire on the Highway 101 in between exits 18 and 19.
-- April 12 at 7:49 p.m. Police received a report of an impaired driver in Middleton. A patrol was made, but failed to locate the driver.
-- April 13 at 1:10 p.m. A Wilmot resident reported being threatened.
-- April 13 at 2:03 p.m. A Lequille caller reported that youth were causing property damage.
-- April 13 at 2:36 p.m. A Bridgetown resident reported a complaint of property damage.
-- April 13 at 7:39 p.m. A Lawrencetown resident reported that an individual took a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner.
