Mariners lose as Slammers score last minute goal

The Woodstock Slammers edged the Yarmouth Mariners 4-3 Saturday night in Woodstock in Game 4 of the Kent Cup Final.

With the win, the Slammers tie the best of 7 series 2-2.

Mitch Price led the Slammers with 2 goals and 1 assist while Austin Brown contributed 1 goal and 1 assist.

Jordan Scott (powerplay) opened the scoring at 3:17 to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Justin Saulnier (powerplay) scored at 12:53 to extend the lead to 2-0 after the first period. Paul Roebothan scored at 15:47 to cut the Yarmouth lead in half at 2-1. Price scored at 18:53 to tie the score at 2-2 after the second period. Price (second goal of game) scored at 13:03 to give Woodstock their first lead of the game at 3-2. Ryan Penney (powerplay) scored 1:02 later at 14:05 to deadlock the game at 3-3. Brown (powerplay, game winner) scored with 24 seconds remaining in regulation time at 19:36 for the win.

Woodstock went 1 for 7 on the powerplay while Yarmouth went 3 for 6.

The Slammers Ben MacFarlane stopped 38 of 41 shots for the win while Yarmouth's Jocelyn Morrissette stopped 30 of 34 shots in the loss.
