A 16-year old boy from Sandy Point was arrested after stabbing another boy his age from Barrington last Friday, Apr 4.
A fight broke out between the two boys on Dock Street in Shelburne and the victim of the stabbing contacted the RCMP.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital and the attacker was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of a controlled substance after marijuana was found and three fails to comply with sentencing. The male youth was remanded into custody until a bail hearing in Annapolis Royal.
He was also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“If you have either a knife or a gun or a bat and it is outside the realm of hunting or a baseball game…we believe the purpose of the weapon being held was for dangers to the public,” said RCMP Cpl. Mike O’Callaghan.
The stabbing took place in the afternoon and that stood out as a concern to Cpl. O’Callaghan.
“This wasn’t something that happened late at night,” he said, “anybody could have come across this stuff.”
He said that the stabbing was not a random act of violence but that the two youths knew each other.
The charged boy appeared in provincial court for his remand hearing and was released into the custody of his parents after a $500 surety or bail was paid.
According to Cpl. O’Callaghan, he was released with strict conditions and because of the seriousness of the offense, he will be held under house arrest until his next court date.
