Police deal with accidents, thefts, intoxication

A Bridgetown resident recently recovered a bicycle that was stolen from a garage last year. The 10-speed had been found in December by a Middleton resident and, after it hadn’t been claimed for several months, was sold to a third party.
When the new owner tried to buy parts from a dealer, the 10-speed was identified and returned to the original owner.
The RCMP responded to 72 calls for assistance during the week of March 31 through April 6. Among these were four false 911s; five false alarms; 12 traffic matters, and 16 domestic matters.
Following are highlights of these calls:
-- March 31 at 3:32 p.m. Police were called to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 1 near Granville Ferry. Both vehicles were damaged. One driver faces charges for failing to yield.
-- March 31 at 6:30 p.m. Police received a report that two individuals were driving ATVs on the road in Middleton. A patrol was made, but failed to locate the drivers.
-- March 31 at 9 p.m. The Bridgetown ESSO station reported a gas and go, after a red Mazda truck filled some gas cans and left without paying.
-- April 1 at 00:07 a.m. Police were called to Lawrencetown in response to a complaint of disturbance of the peace. Someone was playing loud music. A patrol was made and peace was restored.
-- April 1 at 7:54 a.m. Police were called to Wilmot after receiving a report that two people were panhandling at a local store and annoying customers. A patrol was made, but the individuals had already left.
-- April 1 at 6:32 p.m. Police were called to Wilmot to investigate a possible scam. A resident received a suspicious call from a security company regarding a home visit. When police followed up with the company, the “employee” was unknown to them.
-- April 2 at 5:40 a.m. Police were called to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 1, near Upper Granville after a motorist hit a deer. The vehicle was damaged, but drivable.
-- April 2 at 9 a.m. Police were called to a two-vehicle accident in Meadowvale. Both vehicles were damaged but drivable.
-- April 2 at 9:45 a.m. Police were called to Wilmot to investigate a hit and run. A vehicle sustained considerable damage after it had been left in a parking lot overnight.
-- April 2 at 2:44 p.m. An Upper Clements resident reported a break and enter into a residence. Money was stolen, the investigation continues.
-- April 3 at 5:32 a.m. Police were called to Wilmot after a citizen reported that a distressed woman had come to the door with a dog.
-- April 3 at 9:08 a.m. A motorist complained that another driver was tailgating. Investigation revealed that one party wasn’t sure what the other driver was doing.
-- April 3 at 12:12 p.m. A woodlot owner in Waldec reported that a quantity of cut wood had been stolen from a lot.
-- April 3 at 1:50 p.m. Police were called to Wilmot to investigate a report of a suspicious driver. A patrol was made, but failed to locate the vehicle. The driver was later identified.
-- April 3 at 8:54 p.m. A police check in New Albany resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver. The motorist failed the breathalyzer and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
-- April 4 at 1:14 a.m. Police were called to Highway 1 near Brickton after a driver struck a deer.
-- April 4 at 2:50 a.m. Police were called to Middleton on a request to deal with an unwanted guest. One female was found to be in violation of the terms of her probation and was lodged in cells over night. She is scheduled to appear in court in May.
-- April 4 at 8:10 a.m. A South Williamston resident awoke to find that someone had damaged their mailbox during the night.
-- April 4 at 10:07 a.m. Police were called to Melvern Square after receiving a report of a break and enter into a residence. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
-- April 4 at 11 a.m. An alert citizen in Middleton notified police of an attempted fraud regarding a “secret shopper” job. The resident received a cheque in the mail, and after checking with the bank, found it to be fraudulent. The matter has been forwarded to the commercial crime unit.
-- April 4 at 9:50 p.m. Clarence resident reported hearing gunshots. Investigation revealed that a neighbour was setting off fireworks.
-- April 5 at 11:43 a.m. A Margaretsville resident reported a Bernese Mountain dog missing. Anyone with any information regarding the dog is asked to contact the police at 825-2000, or 665-4481.
-- April 5 at 4:45 p.m. Police received a report that a suspicious male was pacing around. A patrol was made, but no one was located.
-- April 5 at 4:49 p.m. A Middleton resident complained that an intoxicated female was loitering, The female was transported back to detox.
-- April 6 at 4:15 a.m. Police were called to the Middleton Tim Hortons to deal with a patron. A patrol was made, but the individual was gone. Police knew the individual and the matter was dealt with accordingly.
-- April 6 at 12:10 p.m. Police received a report that two individuals were driving ATVs on the road. A patrol was made, but failed to locate the individuals.
-- April 6 at 2:56 p.m. A disturbance call in Lawrencetown resulted in one male being detained in cells overnight. He is facing charges and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
-- April 6 at 8:20 p.m. Police were called to Nicatux to investigate a complaint that someone was erratically driving an ATV on the road.
