Residents of a duplex on Evangeline Court, Wolfville, are homeless or displaced following a blaze over the lunch hour Tuesday.
Wolfville Fire Chief Tim MacLeod said his department was called to the scene of the structure fire at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. He said both sides of the wood-framed duplex were occupied. Greenwich provided mutual aid and EHS paramedics assessed a couple of individuals at the scene.
The Wolfville fire department worked with the Provincial Fire Marshal’s Office to determine that the fire started outside in a storage area. It was not suspicious in nature. MacLeod said they wrapped-up their investigation Wednesday morning.
The chief noted that a total of five people were left homeless or displaced as a result of the fire. One side of the duplex was damaged extensively by fire and water. It is a total loss, both in terms of the structure and the contents.
A firewall prevented the fire from spreading immediately to the other side of the duplex, but there was some fire extension and some water damage to that unit.
MacLeod said some of the contents of the other unit probably could be salvaged, but the residents would be displaced.
