March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued HAGEN, Beatrice Marguerite - 89, of Hunts Point, Queens County, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008 in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born on July 19, 1918, in Hunts Point, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Bessie (West) Farquhar. She was a member of the Bayview Senior Club and played a very active role in St. James Anglican Church, Hunts Point. Bea enjoyed knitting, sewing, and watching hockey and baseball. She is survived by a daughter Joan Gallagher of Hunts Point; granddaughter Janet Papa of Dover, New Hampshire; grandson William Gallagher of Boston, Mass; great grandchildren Joseph and Chantal Papa; sister Ruby Rumsey of Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband John; sisters Estelle and Francis. Funeral Service was held Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from St. James Anglican Church, Hunts Point. Rev. Donald Lawton officiated. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued WILLIAMS, Carol Irene - 69, of South West Port Mouton, Queens County, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 29, 2008 in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Hunts Point, she was the daughter of the late Lillieth Williams. Carol loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, kingo, bluegrass and country music. She worked a number of years at C.W. McLeod Fish Plant and handlining fish. She is survived by daughters Peggy Williams, Carolyn (Duncan) Bowers, both of Port Mouton, Rhonda (William) Barnes, of Sable River, Rosanna (D.J.) Dorey, of Liverpool; son Manus (Pam), of Yarmouth; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis; son Miles; grandson Lewis. Funeral Service was held Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Bethe Benjamin Cameron officiated. Burial was in the South West Port Mouton Community Cemetery. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued Blanche Marie (Naugler) Gates Porter –90, of the Wolfville Nursing Home, formerly of Arbordale and Port Williams, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008 in the home. Born on January 24, 1918 in Seffernsville, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Ida Mae (Isnor) Naugler. She is loved and sadly missed by son, Daryl and daughter-in-law, Judith; son, Spurlyn; beloved sister, Thelma; sister-in-law, Win; six grandchildren, Ian, Stephen, Todd, Jennifer, Christopher and Kathryn; nine great grandchildren, Franadus, Danielle, Jackson, Natalee, Mia, Rachel, Clara, Tess, and Makyla; three stepchildren, Brenda, Gerald and Gordon and his son, Jon. She was predeceased by her first husband, Sylvanus Gates and her second husband, Saxby Porter; six brothers and six sisters. She was active in the Women's Institute and in the Girl Guide Movement. For many years she led Brownie Packs and cooked for Guide camps. She worked outside the home and also worked beside her first husband in their poultry business. Blanche was a busy craft person especially noted for producing quilts and oil paintings. She even built her own fireplace and chimney for her cottage at Scotts Bay. She was a member of the Port Williams United Baptist Church and a loyal supporter of the Women's Missionary Society. In her retirement she enjoyed spending winters in Florida and visiting her family in Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Bermuda, New England and New Brunswick. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Port Williams United Baptist Church, Reverend David Ogilvie and Reverend Doctor Carol Ann Janzen officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fox Hill Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Port Williams Baptist Church. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued AMIRAULT, Lawrence O’Neil “Larry” – 66, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 11, 1941 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late James “Buff” and Florence “Sis” (Francis) Amirault. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Anne (nee Bourque), as well as daughters, Cheryl (Todd) Deveau, Halifax; Lynn (Chad) LeBlanc, Yarmouth; Nicky Amirault (Dwayne Dickson), Calgary, Alberta; grandsons, Zachary and Cameron. Also surviving are his brother, Francis “Frank” (Carol), Dartmouth; his sister, Pat (Jim) Trefry, Chebogue Point, along with nieces, Karen, Sharon, Beth and Karen; a nephew, Jimmy. He enjoyed traveling, and he loved sports of all types, whether he was participating or just watching, and he won several awards for his involvement. Larry was an avid golfer, and he will certainly get his hole-in-one in heaven. He also loved basketball, pool, canoeing, and especially sport fishing. Larry loved to be close to nature, and after retirement, he purchased some property and spent all of his days clearing and working the land, all the while enjoying the one thing that he loved most, nature. Larry was a devoted husband, father, “Papa”, brother, “Unc” and friend. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2181, Yarmouth. Larry was a graduate of Yarmouth High, and then worked in Halifax with Canada Packers for 25 years, after which he took two years off, and then purchased Reg’s Store on Argyle Street in Yarmouth, which he owned and operated for 12 years under the name Larry’s Kwikway. Visitation took place from 2-4 and again from 7-9 on Friday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 29 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. A reception followed in the Notre Dame Community Centre, Queen Street, Yarmouth. Spring interment will take place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Born May 17, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Maude Allen. Inez worked with T.B. Koritam’s in Yarmouth as a fish processor, and she was a loving mother. Surviving are her children, Brenda Atkins (Gilbert Romain), Patricia Atkins, both of Yarmouth; Rose (Kevin) Adams, Edmonton; Donald Atkins, Yarmouth; Reginald (Leontine) Atkins, Calgary; Dorothy “Chicken” (Shawn) Atkins, Florence “Butterball” Atkins (Michael Robicheau), Vernon “Sam” Atkins, all of Yarmouth; Allen (Monica) Atkins, Toronto; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Allen, Boston. Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph David Atkins; son, Clifford Faye; sisters, Rose Perria and Judy Haskell. Cremation took place and there was no visitation by request. A memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 in H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth, Rev. Mr. Stephen Bourque officiated. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued d’ENTREMONT, Isabelle Marie Rose – 94, Saint Vincent’s Guest House, Halifax, and formerly of Dartmouth and Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008, in the home. Born April 17, 1914 in North Belleville, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Albenie and Angelina (Bourque) Pottier. Isabelle worked as a seamstress and as a sales clerk with both Shirley’s Shop and The Women’s Up To Date Shop in Yarmouth, having also done some fur-work. She was a very charitable woman, having crafted and donated many items to St. Anne’s parish, where she had previously been a Eucharistic minister. She was a member of La Société de l’Assomption, as well as of Les Dames de Sainte Anne. Surviving are a daughter, Norma (Leonard) Hooper, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Stephen, Karen, Randall, Glenn and Marc; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Alphonse Pottier, Lower Eel Brook; sisters, Bessie Bourque, Dartmouth; a half sister, Eileen Lattanzi, Everett, Mass. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, L. Archie d’Entremont; a daughter, Joan LeBlanc; brothers, Agno Pottier, Emile Pottier and Benoit Pottier; a sister, Bernadette Pottier, in infancy. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued CHANDLER, Jeff – a man with a zest for life and a wonderful laugh passed away suddenly on March 25, 2008 in Nanaimo, BC. Jeff was born in Liverpool, NS on March 16, 1962 and lived in Nova Scotia prior to moving to BC in 1989. He loved to be at sea and indulged this passion as skipper of a commercial fishing vessel. He leaves to mourn his wife Jackie (nee Hannam); daughters Olivia and Jessie; sons Briar and Glen; parents Aubrey (Sheree) Chandler, Rita (Gary) Veinot; siblings Amanda and Jacob Chandler, Lisa Chandler (Gordie Rhodenizer) and Tabitha Veinot; niece Kaitlin; nephews Ryan and Anthony; grandfather Kenneth Chandler and many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends on the West and East coasts. He was predeceased by his son Kyle; brother Craig; grandparents Beatrice and Gerald Cross and Felicia Chandler; uncles Walter (Ann) Chandler and Michael (Alethia) Keating. A funeral service was held in Nanaimo, BC on April 1, 2008. A memorial service and reception was held at West Northfield Anglican Church on April 11, 2008. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued Mary “Ferne” Cook (Dystant) - 93, Waterville, Kings County, passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on March 25, 2008. She was born March 5, 1915, in Ellerslie, P.E.I. Ferne had worked at R.T. Holman, Summerside, prior to her marriage in 1943. Ferne was a life-long and devoted member of the United Church of Canada. For many years she was on the session and sang in the choir of St Andrew’s United Church, Waterville (later becoming Trinity United). Ferne was a life member of the United Church Women and was an active in the Catherine Phinney Unit, Waterville. She was active in the work of Valley Presbytery & Valley Presbyterial. Her passion was music and although she played the piano from an early age, a church organ would always be a source of inspiration for her. She was an active and committed volunteer in her community and was president of the Home and School Association when Waterville still had its school. In more recent years she sat on the board of the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband and life-long companion, Claude M. Cook, Waterville; daughter, Connie Wright and spouse, James Wright, Toronto, Ont.; son, Charles Cook and spouse, Marilyn Mullett, Stillwater Lake; granddaughter, Erin Wright and spouse, Tim Ross, great granddaughter, Isabella Ross and great grandson, Leo Ross, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; grandson, Tim Wright and spouse, Tiffany Ring and great grandson, Aidyn Wright, London, UK. Also surviving are sister, Edith Caseley (Dystant) and niece, Janice Bannister (Caseley), Moncton NB; sister-in-law, Margaret Brydon (Cook), niece, Sheila Stewart Blair, Victoria B.C.; and nephew, Darrel Brydon Vancouver B.C. Ferne was predeceased by her parents, Lewis and Millie Dystant, and a sister, Ethel. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A celebration of Ferne’s life will be held in Trinity United Church, 1209 Maple Street, Waterville at 2 p.m. Saturday June 28. Rev. Ray A. March 23 to March 29, 2008 continued WATERS, Abbie D. (Parnell) passed away on March 26, 2008 at John Adams Health Care Center in Boston, Massachusetts at 100 years of age. Born in Northwest Bay, East Port Medway she was the daughter of the late Phoebe S. (Gaetz) and Walter F. Parnell. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Waters, loving mother to Mary Harris of Milton, MA and Richard Waters of Taunton, MA. She was a loving grandmother to Richard Harris of Milton, MA and Kathryn Waters of Taunton, MA. She was a loving sister to Lawrence Parnell, Queens Manor and Blanche Veinot of Liverpool and Clyde Parnell of Yarmouth. She was predeceased by brothers: Edgar, Wells, Robert, Cecil and Irving. Abbie went to Massachusetts at age 16 where she lived with her aunt and uncle Dessie and Harry VanRoy in Roxbury. She continued her education and graduated from Roslindale High School. She also attended Boston Clerical School. She worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company until retirement and then continued a career at Filene’s Dept. store where she was a model in the Designer Shop and also a sales associate. She was the recipient of many awards for outstanding sales associate. She was also a Poll Worker in Precinct 9 for the Town of Milton. Funeral services were held at the First Congregational Church in Milton. Interment was in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA. A memorial service is being held on Saturday, July 19 at 2pm in the United Church, East Port Medway. A catered luncheon will follow at the East Port Medway Community Hall. Family and friends are welcome.
