Work weekend scheduled
Community volunteers in Westfield are continuing to work on their new community hall with a “work weekend” planned for April 12 and April 13.
It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day with lunch provided.

A fire destroyed the hall in April 2007.

“We’re getting there, but there’s still a lot of work to be done,” said Westfield Community Hall Committee Treasurer, Judy Frail.

They have installed the furnace, preliminary wiring and plumbing, studded interior walls and are working on the ceiling and wall insulation, she said.

Once warmer weather hits they will work on the ramp and stairway as well as the parking area, said Frail.

Bad weather during previous work parties did not seem to stop people from venturing out to help.

Volunteers have put in well over 1,000 hours.

Although Frail is unsure how much the project will cost by the time everything is finished, they did receive $75,000 in insurance money.

They have received numerous donations as well.

Frail said the money is holding out but she does not believe there will be enough to finish the interior.

“We’re very anxious to hold one of our breakfasts so we can feel like we’re really back,” she said.
