On March 30, the Cornwallis Project 4-H Club held its annual speech and demonstration day. Twenty-five out of the 32 club members presented a speech or demonstration, to the delight of the guests. Afterwards, a potluck supper was held with over 50 people attending, consisting of guests, parents and members.
After the potluck, the winners were announced. Sophia Kennie presented the winning junior speech, with the runner-up being Emogen Peacock.
Michelle Trenholm placed first in the intermediate speech category, with Chad Kennie coming in second.
The winner of the senior speech, Johanna Trenholm, was followed closely by Thomas Champion.
When it came to demonstrations, Leah Newcombe and Kathleen Newcombe came in first with a junior demo, followed by Sarah Smith and Alie Abernethy in second.
Allison and Laura Kennie came out on top in the senior demonstration, with the runners-up being Margaret Peill and John Thomson.

The Port Williams Health Auxiliary will hold its next meeting Tues. Apr. 8 in the Ladies’ Parlour of the Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Sheila McCurdy, Public Health Nurse, will speak on “Enjoying the Outdoors Safely”. Everyone is welcome.
The spring Adopt-A-Highway clean-up, sponsored by the Women’s Institute and the Lions Club, will be held Sat., April 19 (weather permitting). They will clean Highway 358 running through Port Williams from Greenwich corner to the Canard River.
Anyone 12-and-over interested in participating should meet at the Community Centre at 9 a.m. wearing boots and gloves. It’s a great way to clean up our roadways and get some exercise at the same time.
The second session of the Learning Circle, free courses of community interest, will be held Mon., April 14 at the Port Williams United Baptist Church.
In the second of the End of Life Issues series, Rev. Dave Ogilvie and Lisa Smith from NSCC will speak about funeral options.
In the second of the In the Shadow of Blomidon: how has our regional been shaped by nature and newcomers? series, Henry Dorey, President of Zone 10 off-reserve Nations, will present the Mi'kmaq story.
All courses run from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Church and are free of charge. Pre-registration is not necessary. Come to as many sessions as you can. Refreshments will be provided.

The Princess Candlelight and Dessert Party will be held Fri., April 25 at 7 p.m. in the
Community Centre. Come and see our new princess be chosen.
An interesting and original fundraiser will happen in Port Williams Sat., April 26 at the Community Centre at 7 p.m. when the Launchers Athletics Club, a non-profit organization, will host its Our Kids, Our Future Auction Fundraiser to benefit young athletes of Launchers Athletics.
The club also recognizes the importance of playing a leadership role in the community and will contribute a portion of the proceeds of this event to The Valley Child and Development Association.
The evening will consist of a verbal and silent auction of wonderful items including sports memorabilia, celebrity autographs, clothing and books and merchandise from local individuals and businesses. It’s time to honour a village volunteer with the Port Williams Volunteer Award. This award was initiated by the Village Service Commission in memory of Harold B. Legge, who served the Village as a Commissioner so faithfully for more than 16 years.
The deadline for nominations, which may be made for an individual, couple or group, is
April 30. The award recipients will be announced at the annual meeting of the Village Commission in May.
EMS: The PTSA will meet with Ms. Charlene Davies, Vice-Chair of the AVRSB, in the near future. Davies has been a strong advocate for EMS and continues to bring our issues to the table at Board Meetings. We hope to get some follow-up information on things like the challenges of safe parking and traffic flow at the school and the status of renovations to name a few.
