A Shelburne County resident in his first year towards a Bachelor of Music at Mount Allison will be performing with the Elliott Chorale on April 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church in Shelburne.
“It’s going to be an amazing show,” said John Brannen, who graduated from Barrington Regional High School last year.
The Elliott Chorale is an auditioned chamber choir with approximately 20 members.
About half are vocal majors with the remaining being instrumentalists, like Brannen, and other non-music students.
“I had sang in impromptu church choirs before but the music was simple hymns,” said Brannen.
“I had never sang tenor in a professional choir like this one, that dealt with difficult music and even different languages. I found that as the year has gone on, my range has increased substantially especially towards the top of my register,” he said.
The chorale rehearses twice a week together but all members are expected to practice their music regularly on their own.
The group will also be visiting Barrington Regional High School on Friday at 1:30 p.m. for a performance and to conduct a workshop with the students.
“I think it's important for the people of Shelburne County to be exposed to such wonderful songs and experienced singers,” said Brannen.
The chorale will usher in the spring with Elizabethan Spring - a work by Canadian composer Steven Chatman. The singers will also sing new works related to the Latin American countries. People from Canada and from Latin America composed these engaging and rhythmic works. The Elliott Chorale will be performing in Windsor, Lunenburg, Liverpool, and Barrington as well this spring.
The event is a free will admission.
