RUSSELL, William Cecil "Bill", 58, of Leminster, Hants County, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on February 10, 1950, in New Ross, he was the son of Maxine (Lenihan) Russell of Kentville and the late Howard Russell. He was a member of the Hants County Branch 009, Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor, where he enjoyed playing darts with his friends. He loved his animals, Cheyanne, Mama and Tiger. Surviving besides his mother; are his children, Nathan Russell, Windsor; Laura Rafuse (Jason), New Ross; grandson, Sam Reeves; also by his former wife, Kendra (Ward); and sisters, Betty (Russie) Skerry; Pauline (Royce) Levy; Barbara (Gregory) Levy; Mary Reeves; Patricia (Tony) Rafuse, all of New Ross; Tina Russell (Mike), Gold River; brothers, Terry, Waterville; Barry, New Ross; John (Lynanne), Kentville; Bruce (Deborah), Kentville; Kevin, Kentville; David (Amy), Terrance Bay; Wayne (Peter), Halifax; nieces, Patty Woodworth, Christine Morrow, Kimberley Reeves, Samantha Russell, Nicolle Russell, Darcy Russell and Sarah Russell; nephews, Wayne Skerry, Glendon Levy, Aaron Long, Brendon Levy, John Russell Jr. and Kyle Russell. Besides his father, he was predeceased by two nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 23, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, in the Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tom Henderson officiated, followed by a private family interment, at the Vaughan Community Cemetery, Lower Vaughan. Donations in memory of Bill were requested to be made to a charity of one's choice. BLAGDON, Abner "Jeo" - 83, Highcrest Home for Special Care, Sherbrooke, and formerly of Yarmouth, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2008. Born in Blanchette, Nfld., on September 15, 1924, he was retired, having worked aboard marine ships throughout the world. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his mother, Theresa Blagdon; brothers, Bill and Sim; grandson, Jared Roberts; stepson, George Fenton. Surviving are sons, Gary, Herman and Calvin Fenton; stepdaughters, Louise Fenton and Gloria Smith; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. KNAPP, Pamela Louise, 60, of Clementsport, born in Digby, died March 21, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Funeral March 26 in St. Edwards Anglican Church, Clementsport. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

HUPHMAN, Cyril, 55 - of Port Mouton, Queens County passed away suddenly in QE II Health Science Centre, Halifax as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Liverpool, he was the son of the late Parker E. and Evelyn M. (Fisher) Huphman. Cyril was an employee with Twin Seafoods of Woods Harbour. He was an active volunteer in his community and was awarded the Queens County Volunteer of the Year in 2007. Cyril enjoyed gospel music, variety shows and being with his family. He had a "heart of gold" and was willing to help everyone. He is survived by sisters: Debra (William) Hansen, Janet Roy and Evelina Smith (Clarence Williams), all of Port Mouton, Glenda (Maurice) Cunningham and Beverly (Douglas) Croft, both of Milton, Sharon Cunningham of Bridgewater, Mona Whynot of Caledonia; brothers Randy (Lorraine) of Shelburne, Arnold (Nancy Nickerson) of Port Mouton and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service was held Friday March 28, 2008 in West Queens Recreational Centre, River Head Road, Port Mouton. Beth Benjamin Cameron and Rev. Jennifer Garbin officiated. Burial was in Peaceful Hill Cemetery, Port Mouton. Donations may be made to Port Mouton United Church or Summerville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. DEAN, Therese Louise, 1949 – 2008 passed away unexpectedly at her home in Milton, NS. She is survived by her loving spouse John R. O’Hurley; mother Patricia L. Corcoran of Sydney, BC; son Kelly and Stephany; daughter Erin Louise Dean of Victoria, BC; granddaughter & new grandson Casey & Jared Dean and cousins Janet & Brian of England. John’s Brother Gary Grace of Caledonia, ON flew down and was a great help and support in this troubling and painful time. Our neighbours Peggy Airey, Bonnie Wong, Dick & Marguerite Cole, the Hatt family, Marintin & Myles of Morton House, Tammy Dunsmore and family, and John & Nancy Leefe. Thank you for your love and understanding. Therese loved Nova Scotia and its wonderful people. We both felt we had come home at last.

FRASER, Jessie M. “Jay” 103, - Windsor, Hants Co., died Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Born September 29, 1904, in Pinehurst, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Rev. Colin and Mrs. Jane (Phillips) McRae, second eldest of a family of four children now all deceased. She was educated at Mount Allison University from which she graduated in 1931. She subsequently attended McGill University where she obtained the degree of Master of Social Work. She married William Ross Fraser who was a United Church clergyman and later became a professor of philosophy at Sir George William University, now Concordia University in Montreal. Mrs. Fraser was employed by a social service agency in Montreal, and at the time of her retirement in 1970 was a Supervisor of Social Service. Following the death of her husband she moved to Wolfville, and resided there until 1995 when she became a resident of Melville Heights in Halifax. Prior to her death she resided at the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Mrs. Fraser enjoyed reading and playing bridge. She was a relatively private person despite having many friends. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family as her parents and sisters, Lillian and Bernice, Digby, and Evelyn, Toronto all predeceased her. She is survived by a nephew, Colin (Diana) Purdy, Windsor, and a niece, Jane Hartman, Ottawa. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Mrs. Fraser’s wishes there will be a private family service held at a future date. Donations in memory of Mrs. Fraser may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Margaret Louise Usher - 71, Auburn, Kings Co., formerly of Waterville, Kings Co. passed away at home on March 22, 2008. Born in Berwick, Kings Co. she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Lula (Loomer) Foster. Surviving are her son, Glen (Ivy Lee) Weaver, Scarborough, Ont.; daughter, Patty (Ted) Llewellyn, Cambridge Station; grandsons, Rod & Alex; brother, Donald (Glenda) Foster, Grafton; sisters, Janet (Alan Doucette) Lutz, Berwick; Ruth (Ron Martin) Foster, Coldbrook; Norma Giffin, Berwick; sister-in-law, Pat Foster, Stoney Creek, Ont.; several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a stillborn son, Douglas James; brothers, Kenneth & Ronald Foster; sister-in-law, Marilyn Foster. Margaret managed & owned the R. & M. Variety Store in Waterville for 25 years, where she became a friend to all who came into the store. She was an active member of the Kingston United Baptist Church. Her generosity & kindness to others will always be remembered. Margaret will be missed by her best pal, “Rocky” the dog. There was visitation Tuesday March 25, from 7-9 p.m. in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Funeral service took place 3 p.m. Wednesday March 26, in the Kingston United Baptist Church, 695 Hwy # 1, Kingston. Henry Roland “Rollie” Dow - 79, New Minas, formerly of Port Daniel, Quebec, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Port Daniel, Quebec, he was the son of the late Gavin and Matilda (Walker) Dow. Rollie lived in Port Daniel and many other places in his lifetime, moving to New Minas in November, 2007. He worked for thirty five years as a truck driver, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Rollie was also in the Black Watch Regiment. He loved to play guitar and sing country songs. Rollie will be sadly missed by niece Marg and nephew Burton Duguay. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister, Ella Dow Powers. Besides his parents, Henry was predeceased by sisters Ruby and Myrtle, and brother Ronald. Many thanks to Norma and Howard Chedore and Arlene Dea for all that they did for Rollie. Following Rollie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The Memorial Service will take place at a later date. SMITH, Leighton Osborne - 90, formerly of 40 Huntington St., Yarmouth, passed away March 19, 2008, in Tidal View Manor. He was born in Little River, Yarmouth Co. His family later moved to Arcadia. Leighton was a former member of the Yarmouth Golf and Country Club, Clare Golf Club, Maritime Seniors and IOOF. He was employed with Electrolux Ltd. for over 27 years. Leighton is survived by daughters, Janice (Walter) Stelma and Marilyn Brown, both of Yarmouth; grandson, Kevin Brown, Halifax; sister, Muriel Moreton, London, Ont.; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Selvage) in 2002; his parents, John and Eudora (Beals) Smith; brothers, Lloyd, Gordon, Eldred, Oscar and Glendon; sisters, Marguerite and Doris. A family graveside service will be held in Arcadia Cemetery at a later date under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, with Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiating.
