After a three-year hiatus, Berwick Community Theatre returns to the stage April 11 and 12 with a “riotous hillbilly comedy.”
Production facilitator Judith Wells is confident the seven-member cast will deliver laughs throughout their presentation of the comedy “Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick.”
“I think the storyline - about a country bumpkin, played by Ray Wade, who gets the best of the city slickers - will be well-received here,” says Wells.
The play begins when James Harvey’s city-slicker character comes to the country to swindle a woman out of her land.
“I won’t give anything away but, when all is said and done, he gets what’s coming to him,” confides Wells.
The group is currently meeting Sunday evenings for rehearsals at Berwick’s Anglican Church hall, where the play will also be staged. While the location is new for them, Wells says the cast and crew are finding the facility “has an intimate atmosphere” sure to be appreciated by the audience.
Many of the actors are “multi-tasking,” filling roles off- as well as on-stage. Wells invites anyone interested in helping out on the production side of the play to attend a rehearsal and learn more about becoming involved with the group.
The production runs April 11 and 12; curtain time is 8 p.m. on both nights. Tickets are available at the door: $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students.
