"Turning Wine into Water" was the theme and Africa's Clean Water Initiative the beneficiary at Thursday evening's Wine and Trees Gala at NSCC Kingstec campus in Kentville.
Over 300 tickets were sold that generated over $10,000 from the event. Proceeds from the Rotary Club of New Minas Sunrise's annual gala, which featured local and international wines and beers, outstanding food, horticulture displays and music in a free-range concourse setting, will help to provide scholarships for local students and clean water for African villagers.
Nicole Robinson, event chair, said last week in The Kings County Advertiser, "the tourism students do all the planning and management of the evening. People walk among the beautiful tropical plants, slate gardens, stone designs that are incredible, ponds, landscaping displays and three different greenhouses.
"It's a beautiful, beautiful night," she said.
About 100 students from the Horticulture, Tourism Management and the Culinary Arts programs at Kingstec greeted, fed and took good care of hundreds of guests, all of whom were dressed to the nines. The halls buzzed with conversation and commingling and a total of 16 exhibitors showcased their wares.
