Privateer Days returns with changes
Privateer Days Commission would like this year’s Privateer Days from July 3 – 6 to return as a community festival.
“The entertainment last year was a wonderful array of groups and performers but the consensus was that perhaps it was just a little too large,” says entertainment chairperson Dick Henneberry. “We felt that perhaps we wanted to bring it back into proportion.”

Henneberry notes they have changed their format.

“What used to be the beer tent is now the entertainment tent. We’re having a big light show, we’re having a big stage and a big tent.”

The only other venue will be Golden Pond Restaurant.

The entertainment tent will also take the place of the main stage, says Henneberry.

“We just found that off the main stage everything was so open you couldn’t control anything,” he states.

With entertainment in a contained area, they will be able to sell 50/50 raffle tickets and make announcements, he says for example.

A few motorcycles and riders from Street Punishment will also visit the tent, Henneberry says.

“Rumour has it that Thursday night in the entertainment tent there’s something in the wind for the youth,” hints Henneberry about a black light dance.

Matt Minglewood will return the evening of July 4 for a performance in the entertainment tent.

There will be a cover charge of $10.

A four-band rock and roll extravaganza will take place the evening of July 5. “Air Traffic Control is going to be one of them,” Henneberry says.

Sunday evening will showcase a country and western show up until the fireworks.

Musical entertainment taking place at the Golden Pond will include Shirley Jackson and the Side Cats and the Hupman Brothers.
