WATSON, Vivian Katherine - 93, Windsor, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Vivian was born January 15, 1915, in Windsor. She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Katherine Holden. Vivian lived a long and loving life in Windsor for 93 years. She had a strong faith in God and a deep love for her family. Surviving are her son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Amy, Chilliwack, B.C.; granddaughters, Ashley and Jennifer Watson, who are both attending Dalhousie University in Halifax. There was no visitation by request. Funeral service was held 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, 194 King St., Windsor, Rev. J.J. MacDonald officiated. MALONE, Robert C. - 44, of Halifax, formerly of Liverpool, passed away peacefully March 12, 2008 in QEII Health Science Centre, due to illness. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of Peggy (Knox) (Malone) Williams (David) of Mill Village and the late Gordon Malone. GUYE, Evelynn (Brown), 69, Shelburne, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 13, 2008 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Evelynn was born August 21, 1938 in Boisevain, Manitoba to the late William Oliver and Eva (McGregor) Brown. Evelynn grew up in Sudbury, Ont., where she was employed with the city library and Bell Telephone before moving to Shelburne in 1958 to marry George (Mick) Guye. After the birth of their third child, Evelynn returned to school completing both her grade 12 and a small business program. At the completion of this training she worked at SRHS as a Library Assistant before teaching an Adult Education Program at the school. During the 1970’s Evelynn and Mick purchased and operated Souriquois Lake Cabins and she was the secretary for the Shelburne School Board as well as obtaining her NS Real Estate License. After managing the local Pat King Real Estate Office, Evelynn opened E.M. Guye Real Estate which serviced Shelburne County for many years. In the 1980’s Evelynn became an accredited member of the Canadian Appraisal Institute and was honored to obtain the highest marks recorded that year. She opened South Shore Appraisals which she operated until her retirement in 1996. During that time she also sat one term on the Shelburne Town Council. During all her endeavors Evelynn was a loving wife, mom and grandmother. She enjoyed music, bridge and reading and averaged reading about one book a day throughout her adult life. She had a passion for oil painting and was a very talented painter and authored a cookbook of her favourite recipes for her granddaughters. Evelynn is survived by her husband, George “Mick”, Shelburne; daughter, Beth, Shelburne; son, Bill (Yvonne), St. Johns Nfld; granddaughters, Katie (Nathan) Kings University, Edmonton, Alberta; Cassie, Memorial University, St. Johns, Nfld; brother, Clayton (Pamela) Brown, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont; cousin, Wayne (Marilyn) Manitoolin Island, Ont. Evelynn was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Eva Brown; sister, Patricia; daughter, Patricia Ann; aunts, Myrtle and Clairabelle; uncles, Robert, Leonard and Everett. At Evelynn’s request, a memorial service will be delayed until Saturday, May 10 at 2 P.M. in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne to allow her granddaughters to complete their University year. POTHIER, Vernon, Simon - 82, Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Tidal View Manor, Yarmouth. Born October 28, 1925 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Eddie and Marthe (LeBlanc) Pothier. Vernon was a life-long lobster fisherman and Captain of the herring seiner "Sea Foam." He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 6505, Wedgeport. Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Catherine; son Donny (Wedgeport); daughters Jeannine (Jim) Quick (Raynardton), Yvette (Kenny) d'Entremont (Lwr. West Pubnico), and Lise (Kent) Surette (Mid. West Pubnico); grandchildren Matthew, Meagan, Julien, Jocelin, Robert, and Chantal. Also brothers, Ernest (Marie), Halifax; Patrick (Eileen), Wedgeport; and Leonard (Mary), Ontario; and sisters Pauline Shaver, Yarmouth; and Eilene Carney, California. Besides his parents, Vernon was predeceased by brother Elie; and sister, Ruby. Our father had such a deep passion for fishing and sailing on the sea that he kept lobster fishing til the age of 78. Even during these last few years his eyes would always light up at the mention of lobsters. Many family and friends share great memories of the numerous trips Dad made with them in his boat "Yvette & Lise" to his shanty on the picturesque Tusket Islands. Many thanks to the nurses and staff (A-wing) of Tidal View Manor for all their care and support! Thanks as well to Bob Doucette for his daily support and care of Dad these past three years. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday, March 16, with prayers at 8 PM in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Wedgeport. DEVEAU, Florence Winnifred – 84, Salmon River, died March 13, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Elizée and Emma (Comeau) Deveau. She loved bowling, knitting, crocheting and playing cribbage, once making a perfect 29 hand. Surviving are children Betty (George) White, North Belleville; Celeste (Paul) Doucette, Belliveau Cove; Denis (Sylvie), Gatineau, Que.; Bernard (Moe), Ottawa, Ont.; half-sister Lucille (Eldon) White, Richfield; grandchildren Jamie, Melissa, Katherine, Marc-André, Mélanie, Serge; great-granddaughter Violet. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by husband Adolphe; brothers Gerald and James; sisters Lillian and Olive. Visitation was from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, March 18 in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19 in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Salmon River, Rev. LANCTOT (Sweeney), Colleen Winifred - 65, passed away suddenly on March 14, 2008, in Yarmouth. Born June 19, 1942 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Katheryn (King) Sweeney. She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Michel Yves Lanctot, Montreal, Que. She is survived by brothers, Earl (Jean), Chegoggin, Yarmouth Co.; Kenneth (Charlene), Lakeside Road, Yarmouth Co.; sons, John, Borden, Ont.; Guy (Catherine) Stittsville, Ont.; Blair (Susan), Belnan, and Christopher, Port Hope, Ont.; grandchildren, Amanda, Victor, Joshua, Nicole, Elena, and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Jaidan and Noah. NEWELL, Matthew Joseph “Matty” – 60, Qualhiaski Cove, British Columbia, and formerly of Yarmouth, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008 in Campbell River Hospital, Campbell River, British Columbia. Born April 1, 1947 in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Ernest Newell and Bessie (Blades) Newell-Burgess. Having spent most of his life in Yarmouth, Matty worked for Acadia Lines as a driver for a number of years, and also worked as a taxi driver. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved his family. Surviving are his former wife, Arterine Purdy; sons, Marty Newell and Garnet (Charmaine) Newell, both of Quadra Island, British Columbia; his wife, Charlene Newell, Yarmouth; son, Matthew (Alicia) Newell, Alberta; daughters, Monica Corporon and Rhonda (Warren) Spinney, both of Yarmouth; 4 grandchildren; brothers, Gordon (Anita) Newell, Wainwright, Alta. and Richard Newell, Yarmouth; sisters, Barbara Deveau, South Ohio; Judy Muise, Yarmouth; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parent, he was predeceased by brothers, George Newell, Bill Newell; sisters, Bertha Gray, Jenny Homeney, Sadie LeBlanc, Connie Newell. WOLFE, Dorothy Mae - 90, of Milton, Queens County passed away peacefully, March 14, 2008 at home. Born May 11, 1917 in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ethel Maude (Wolfe) Jollimore. Dorothy was co-owner of a grocery store with her husband Irving for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was always there to help others. MARSH, Audrey Jean - 96, Ste. Croix, Hants Co., passed away peacefully with her family by her side Friday, March 14, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. She was born November 17, 1911, in Windsor, Hants Co. and was the daughter of the late James and Lydia (Conrad) Thomson. She received her early education in Windsor, with teacher training in Truro, and Halifax, and taught for 28 years in elementary schools of Hants County. In retirement she was able to indulge her interest in writing children's historical fiction, and to this end she co-authored the book Smoke over Grand Pre, which won a Nova Scotia Writer's Federation Award. Later she also wrote the Amos Elliot trilogy which has been used in Elementary Schools as part of Language Arts programs. Audrey enjoyed oil painting, gardening, Nova Scotia's history, and was an active member of the Writer's Federation of Nova Scotia and the Ste. Croix United Church. She is survived by daughters, Heather (Art) Macumber, Truro; Judith Cody, Martock; Jane (Tom) Sheppard, Ste. Croix; Carol Marsh (Bill Hudson), Ottawa; son, Bruce (Maureen) Marsh, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Lisa (Darren Leary) Cody, Falmouth; Sean Cody, Halifax; Sarah (Arfon) Hughes, Wales, U.K.; Jillian Macumber, Halifax; Paul and Leanne Boyle, Dartmouth; Jason (Megumi) Sheppard, Tokyo, Japan; Justin (Cathy) Sheppard, Halifax; Jordan Sheppard, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Christopher Leary, Ben and Ellen Hughes, Lynn Sheppard; sister, Marjorie (Frank) MacKay, Truro; many nieces and nephews. EYRE, Frederick “Charlie” - 92, Yarmouth, passed away March 15, 2008, at home. Charlie was born on September 15, 1915, in Red Deer, Alta. Charlie grew up in Yarmouth and then left in the early 1930's to attend Radio Operator School and worked at various radio stations in the far north. He joined the Trans Atlantic Ferry Command (later to become the RAF Ferry Command) in 1940 as a radio operator/navigator. Charlie continued flying until the war ended in 1945. He joined Air France in 1946 as a radio operator/navigator training french crews. In 1947 he joined the F.A.M.A. (Argentina Airlines) training their crews. Charlie joined Trans Canada Airlines in 1948 as a navigator. In 1950 he moved into Trans Canada Airlines management (Labour Relations) and became director of Labour Relations in 1960. From 1970 to 1974 Charlie was the president of Air Jamaica. Then in 1974 he went back to Air Canada as the Vice President of Operations for the European Region. From 1976 to 1979 he was the Vice President of Personnel at Air Canada Headquarters in Montreal. Charlie then retired to Yarmouth in 1979 building his beloved retirement home on the Chebogue River. He is survived by son, David (Cheryl Jo-Anne) Eyre, Yarmouth; daughter, Barbara Butler (Jim Ford), California; grandchildren, Bill Eyre (Cheryl Ann), Yarmouth; Jamie Eyre (Petra), Yarmouth; Christine Eyre, Meteghan; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; brother, Ralph; sisters, Edith, Ellen, Margaret, Kay; parents, Frederick and Bertha. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Father Tom Vaughan officiated. A reception followed at MacKinnon Cann Inn, 27 Willow St., Yarmouth. Burial will take place in the spring in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses.
