Yarmouth hockey club wins rep league title
The Yarmouth atom AAA Mariners captured the 2008 Mainland League atom AAA Championship March 21-23 in Pictou.

Yarmouth went 5-0 in the tournament to bring the first Mainland League Championship banner in AAA hockey to Yarmouth.

Yarmouth won its first game 5-2 against Amherst. Jordan Messenger, Scotty Perry, Jessy Lennox, Matthew Barron and Tristan D'entremont scored for Yarmouth. Rylan Perry was in net for the win and named game MVP.

In the second game against host Pictou, the Mariners offence and defence was too much for the host team. Yarmouth won the game 6-0.

Tristan D'entremont led the way with a hat trick and Jordan Messenger, Matthew Barron and Jessy Lennox each added singles.

Colby Muise was in net for the win.

D'entremont was named game M.V.P.

The Mariners faced Truro in their third game in what was a tough contest.

The two teams went into the third period tied at one until Matthew Barron scored the game winner on a power play with 12:33 to guarantee Yarmouth would finish first and play the fourth-place team in the first crossover game. Jessy Lennox had the other goal for Yarmouth

and Rylan Perry was in net for the win. Jessy Lennox was game MVP.

In the crossover game Yarmouth went into the third period trailing Pictou 3-2.

Yarmouth scored two goals in the third period only to have Pictou score in the last minute of play to force overtime.

Jessy Lennox scored his second goal of the game 23 seconds into overtime to give Yarmouth the win and a birth in the championship game. Also scoring for Yarmouth was Scotty Perry, Tristan D'entremont and Matthew Barron.

Colby Muise and Rylan Perry shared the win in net and Allie Munroe was named game MVP.

Yarmouth played Antigonish in the championship game. The Mariners kept on their winning ways, scoring two goals in the second and one in the third for a 3-0 win and the championship banner.

Scoring for Yarmouth was Scotty Perry, Jordan Messenger and Tristan D'entremont.

Colby Muise, who was called up from atom A to affiliate with the atom AAA team, picked up the win in net. Scotty Perry was named game MVP.
