A short play “Myth or Fact-It’s All A Gamble” will be presented by Addiction Services and YJHS students on stage at Yarmouth Junior High on Thursday, March 27, 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by N.S. Gaming Foundation, admission is free. Panel discussion with local healthcare professionals will follow.

Dinner theatre

Le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse, West Pubnico, presents its third annual dinner theatre, a comedy, Une job neuve (A New Job,) on March 28 and 29 and on April 3, 4 and 5, at 6:30 p.m. The production will be in Acadian French. Easter extravaganza

ELF’s (ELF stands for Everybody Loves Friday) after Easter extravaganza will be held at the Brazil Lake Wesleyan Church 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 28. For community children ages 4-12.



Pancake breakfast

There will be a pancake breakfast, sponsored by the South Ohio Community Centre, for the benefit of the Moses quadruplets, at the South Ohio Community Centre on March 29, 9-10:30 a.m. $4 adults, $2 children, 12 and under.



Washer toss

There will be a washer toss at Le Club Acadien, SAR, registration 6:30-7 p.m., teams picked at 7 p.m. Cost $5/person. All welcome, members and guests. Info: 648-2203.



Fishcake supper

A fishcake supper will be held at Temple Baptist Church. 7 Bond St., March 29 from 4-6 p.m. Take-outs available and delivery is available to seniors. Freewill donations towards the church’s building fund accepted at the door.

TREPA (Tusket River Environmental Protection Association) is hosting a freecycle event where you bring in (and can leave with) good, used TVs, computers and keyboards, etc. at Beacon United Church, on Beacon Street on March 29 from 9-12 a.m. All free. Info: call 648-2761.

Seniors Kickin’ Country is holding a variety show March 30 at Beacon Church in Yarmouth from 2-4 p.m. Proceeds to fund on-going projects. Donations at the door. Door prizes.



Talk

On Sunday, March 30, at 2:30 p.m. at the Yarmouth branch of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia,Chuck Smith will give a talk about the Missionaires, the Yarmouth quartet which achieved fame locally and nationally from the 1940s through the 1970s. His father, Charles Smith, was a member of the group, and Chuck Smith will share memories and also the music.

Fundraiser

April 1

A fundraiser for the Yarmouth County Hospice Society will be held Tuesday, April 1, at Rudder’s, 5:30 p.m. $15 per person, taxes included. Menu: fishcakes, baked beans, beverage, dessert. As part of the event, there will be the auctioning of a quilt, donated by the Quilters’ Guild in memory of Betty Doucette. Contact person for the evening: Shirley Hubbard (742-7088).



Bible study

Peace With Justice, a Bible-based study (7 sessions) of what it takes to make peace in today’s world begins Wednesday April 2 at 7 p.m. at Beacon United Church. All are welcome. For information call 742-5051.



Daffodil campaign

April 3-5

The Annual Daffodil Campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society will be held on April 3-5. Daffodils will be for sale at Pharmasave, Royal Bank, Sobeys, Superstore, Wal-Mart and the Yarmouth Mall. The cost for each bunch is $6.



Presentation

NSCC Continuing Care students will be hosting an interactive presentation on stress, anxiety and burnout on April 3 at the Burridge Campus, Lecture Room 1st Floor, Pleasant Street. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m., presentation runs from 7-9 p.m.

Historical Society meeting

April 4

The Yarmouth County Historical Society will be holding a meeting on April 4, at the museum, 22 Collins St., at 7:30 pm. Guest speaker Mike Tavares will be sharing his experiences in terms of the buildings he owns and has refurbished on Collins Street and Willow Street. These include the Charles C. Richards House Historic B&B and the MacKinnon-Cann Inn, plus others that he is working on. The meeting is open to the public with limited seating. Refreshments served after the program.

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to fill several positions on the Yarmouth Red Cross Emergency response Team in Yarmouth. Focus on providing relief assistance to people in the community who have experienced a personal disaster or responding to a medium or large scale disaster. Training provided. The Baby and Me peer support group meets Tuesday mornings, 10 - 11:30, at Yarmouth Superstore’s community room. All infants with their parents and/or grandparents, as well as pregnant women, are welcome. Peer breastfeeding support is also available. Further info at 902-742-7141.
