Rash of vandalism, possible counterfeit bills and a stolen shovel

During the period of March 3-17, the Yarmouth Town RCMP Detachment received 138 calls for service. This included seven 911 hang-ups, 14 false alarms, three break and enters, 13 property damage complaints, eight assaults, 11 causing a disturbance, two sexual assault investigations, five theft under $5,000, one attempted robbery, four counterfeit currency, two drunk in public places, two Mental Health Act investigations and eight other Criminal Code.

The following is a summary of some of the calls the detachment responded to.

•March 2, acts on vandalism on Forest Street, and on the ‘industrial side’ of Cliff Street (to the east side of Pleasant Street), windows in a company truck and a warehouse were broken.

•March 3, 8:22 a.m., received call from E&J Millworks, someone had broken a window on a company truck overnight and damaged a window to the warehouse.

•March 3, 9:43 a.m., property damage at Chebogue Fisheries on Cliff Street, smashed a window on a forklift, also damage to a building.

•March 4, 3:24 p.m., call from the YMCA reporting about 35 teens in the back parking lot and a fight that was about to take place. Officers attended, fight had not yet started, subjects scattered upon police arrival.

•March 5, 8:48 a.m., a welding shop on Haskell Street reported that 12 windows had been broken overnight.

•March 6, 7:10 a.m., single motor vehicle collision involving a truck on Highway 103 near East Pubnico, assisted rural detachment and traffic services.

•March 6, 8:21 a.m., call of property damage overnight at W.L. Nelson on John Street, three windows smashed, officers attended and also noted that Lam’s Used book store next door also had a window smashed.

•March 7, 1:47 p.m., 911 call from the Superstore regarding an attempted robbery at the pharmacy, officers attended and arrested one adult male who was charged.

•March 9, 9:30 a.m., call from the Rodd Grand Hotel that a person was passed out in the lobby. Subject arrested for being drunk in a public place and lodged in cells.

•March 10, 11:30 a.m., call from a financial institution reporting a possible counterfeit $100 bill. Investigation continuing.

•March 11, 10:41 a.m., complaint from Yarmouth south of the theft of a snow shovel and aluminum stepladder overnight.

•March 12, 8:23 a.m., complaint from the north end of town that someone had broken into a shed overnight and stolen two mountain bikes.

•March 12, 9:11 a.m., received a call from Yarmouth south, a locked vehicle was broken into, damaged and a DVD player was stolen.

•March 14, 2:05 a.m., request for assistance at the Red Knight of a fight in progress, officers attended, subjects had left on foot.

•March 17, 3:58 p.m., responded to a call from a financial institution in the town of possible counterfeit money, investigation continuing.
