LYNCH, Alma Maude - 93, Windsor, Hants Co. It is with sadness that we announce the death of Alma, in the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, Hants Co., on August 2, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Minnie Jane (Harvey) Lynch. In her late teens Alma taught at the MacKay Section School and then later went on to work at the Atlantic School of Theology. Alma was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Lynch, Truro; as well as several Lynch and Harvey relatives throughout Nova Scotia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Stewart, and sisters, Olive, Myrtle and Mildred. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, with Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Interment followed in Meander Cemetery. Flowers were welcome and donations in Alma’s memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. THURBER, Blanche Irene, 98, of Freeport, died Feb. 28, 2008, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Cremation has taken place. Funeral March 6 in Freeport United Baptist Church.

FRIZZELL, L. Josephine - 94, Windsor, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (MacIvor) Robertson. Josephine was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church and a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor. Josephine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Harley E. “Bill” Frizzell; brothers, Jack, George, Charles, Dick, and Ernie; sisters, Margaret, Nell, and Grace. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 339 King Street, Windsor, with Rev. Father J.J. MacDonald officiating. Private family interment was held in St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only. Hayes, James Albert – 65, Brooklyn, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 29 at home. He was the son of the late Albert Hayes and brother of the late Frank Hayes. He is survived by his mother, Mildred (Mood) Hayes; sister, Doris (Doug) White; loving wife of 42 years, Jackie (Trefry); daughter Linda O’Connell (Earl Hersey) of Port Maitland, son William Hayes of Yarmouth; daughter Tanya (Elmer) Doucette of Swan Lake, Manitoba – “Daddy’s little girl”; grandchildren Ashley, Kyle, and Craig O’Connell, Hannah and Dominique Doucette. He was a self-employed carpenter prior to establishing the Christmas tree plantation with his brother Frank. He lived a simple life, close to nature, enjoying hunting and fishing from his camp in Kempt, as well as camping with family and friends at Chebogue Point. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home. There was no funeral or flowers by family request. A gathering of family and friends for a sharing of memories was held at his home on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm. Memorial donations may be to the Brooklyn Cemetery. HUSKINS, Gertrude “Bunny” Hazel - 84, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 29th, 2008 in Queens Manor. Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Annie M. (Townsend) Whynot. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Bunny was a veteran of WWII and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #38, Liverpool. She enjoyed shopping and playing bingo. She is survived by daughter Deborah (Merle) Smiley, of Port Medway; sons Robert (Jean), of Liverpool and Michael, of Middlefield; grandchildren Renee Donovan (Duane David), of Louisdale, Trevor Smiley (Shirley Casey), of Liverpool, Shelley, at home, Christopher (Lana Conrad), of Lower Sackville, Tracy (Douglas) Richards, of Hunts Point, Keshia, of Hunts Point; great granddaughter Paige Donovan; sisters: Pauline (Perry) Lohnes, of New Germany, Nellie Croft, of Berwick, Edith Armstrong, of Salsbury, NB; brother Aubrey, of Mill Village. She was predeceased by husband James “Lester”; son Wayne; both daughter Brenda and son Alan in infancy; grandson Corey; sister Mary; brother Wallace. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service for both Gertrude and her husband James “Lester”, who passed away on Saturday February 23rd, 2008, was held Saturday, March 8th, 2008, from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Rev. BALCOM, Nikol Jayne Ann - 23, Yarmouth, died March 1, 2008, in Raynardton, Yarmouth Co. Nikol was born in Wolfville on January 22, 1985. She graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School in 2003. She had been a member of the Yarmouth Lakers basketball team. Nikol was a past member of the Memorial Club. Nikol was also a member of the Seafest Pagent Alumni. She was an avid swimmer and enjoyed working out. Nikol was working at Boston Pizza for the past year. She was the best big sister in the world to Katie and Elly, who Nikol cherished very much. Nikol is survived by her Mom and Dad, Sally Balcom and Bryan Patterson; biological father, Garry Randall; sisters, Katie Balcom and Elly Patterson; boyfriend, Adam White; uncles, David, Michael, Neil, Bill, Larry, Byron, Bob, Jeff; aunts, Kim and Bonny, along with many cousins who love her and will miss her very much. She was predeceased by grandparents, Frank and Ruth Coldwell, Gerald Patterson, Alfred and Marie Balcom; aunt, Carolyn, and uncle, Geoff. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 5 from 7-9 p.m. for family and friends in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Funeral service was held Thursday, March 6, at 2 p.m. in Hebron United Baptist Church, Rev. Wayne Johnston officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. NORLAND, Robert E., 88, of Monroe Township, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2008 at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Seattle, Washington, he came east after receiving his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and resided in Cranbury for over 50 years. He then settled in Monroe Village three years ago. He began his career at Permacel Tape of North Brunswick, a subsidiary of J & J. In 1960, Mr. Norland founded Norland Products Inc., a manufacturing company in New Brunswick which specialized in producing light sensitive coatings from fish gelatin. NPI is now located in Cranbury. In 1965 he became principal stockholder of Kenney & Ross Limited, a Nova Scotian manufacturer of fish gelatin and served as president of both companies for more than 30 years. Nova Scotia was a second home to Bob and he and his wife Evelyn spent many enjoyable summers in their cottage here. Other activities that he enjoyed were raising African violets, reading and playing cards. He was a former member of First Reformed Church of New Brunswick and has been a long time and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury. Some of the many areas he participated in at church were Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and serving as a Deacon and an Elder. Bob served on the Cranbury Housing Associates and acted as Treasurer for many years. His son, Robert Edward Norland Jr. predeceased him. He is survived by Evelyn Dunn Norland, his loving wife of 63 years and four sons and spouses: Richard and Nancy Norland of Titusville, Eric Norland of Bridgewater, Timothy and Betsey Norland of Cranbury and David and Jean Norland of East Brunswick; along with seven grandchildren, Christina and husband, Mark Audigier, Ned, Martin and wife Shannon, Mike, Jessica, Chris and Ryan. A memorial service will be held April 12 at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, 22 South Main Street, Cranbury, NJ. Cremation will be private. BOUDREAU, Melbourne M., 91, of Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, formerly of Church Point, died March 1, 2008. Cremation has taken place. Funeral March 5 in St. Mary's Church, Church Point. Burial in the parish cemetery.

CROSBY, Wilda Anne - 60, Main Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born July 20, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Alice (Tibbits) Morehouse. Wilda was a homemaker and worked at K-Mart in Yarmouth for a brief time. She enjoyed working with ceramics. Surviving are her husband, William Arnold "Sonny" Crosby; daughter, Sue-Anne Brown, Yarmouth; son, William Arnold Crosby Jr., Overton; grandchildren, Lacey Lee Crosby, Jennifer Sue-Anne Crosby, James Arthur Swim, Philip Corporon; great-granddaughter, Felicity Sue-Anne Muise; brothers, Johnny (Doreen) Morehouse, North Range, and Allen (Donna) Morehouse, Digby. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Lottie Hersey. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Sunday evening, followed by the funeral at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 3, both in H.M. Huskilson's Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth, Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiated. Interment followed in Union Burial Ground, Lake Medway, Digby Co. d’Entremont, Jean Louis - 68, Middle West Pubnico, died February 26, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Middle West Pubnico, he was a son of the late Henri and Estelle (d’Entremont) d’Entremont. He served for five years with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a retired electronics technician with the Canadian Coast Guard, having worked at Yarmouth Airport. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 66, West Pubnico, of which he was past president. He was a past member of the Pubnico and Area Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Alphonsine d’Eon; daughter, Joelle (Derek) d’Entremont, Middle West Pubnico; brother Felicien (Berangere) La Baie Ville, Saguenay, Que.; sister, Sandra (Delmar) d’Entremont, West Pubnico; grandchildren, Josie and Drew. He was predeceased by brothers Euclide and Arcade; sisters, Rachel, Leonne and Joyce in infancy. He will be sadly missed by his feline companion, Squeak. Visitation was held from 3-9 pm and Friday 9-9:30 in West Pubnico Funeral Home, Middle West Pubnico. Funeral was Friday 10 am in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Middle West Pubnico, with Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia or Yarmouth SPCA. For the past year, Jean Louis fought a hard and courageous battle with ALS which he succumbed to. The family would like to thank V.O.N. Yarmouth Chapter, Dr. Terry Rohland, Dr. Rughubir Dr. Van Ast and the nursing staff of Yarmouth Regional Hospital 4th floor, South Wing, for all the care and compassion shown to Jean Louis and his family during his illness.
