High-risk offender released - Cape Sable Islander has long history of violence
Burnley Lawrence Nickerson, a high-risk offender who has a history of violent sexual assaults against women in their 70's and 80's, is returning to Cape Sable Island.

The RCMP in Nova Scotia are notifying Cape Sable Island residents about a violent offender to be released from custody who plans on returning to the community.
Burnley Lawrence Nickerson (69) will be released on March 12 after completing his full two-year sentence for Assault, Use of Force, Breach of Recognizance, Uttering threats and Mischief.

Nickerson has a long history of violence and re-offended shortly after his last release on Sept. 12, 2005. He was subsequently sentenced in March of 2006 to two years in prison.

Nickerson has been charged in the past for violent sexual assaults against women in their 70's and 80's.

He has been professionally assessed as being a high risk to re-offend in a violent manner and is likely to re-offend in a violent

manner.

Nickerson is described as having grey hair, blue eyes, clean-shaven, five-foot, three inches (160cm) and weighs approximately 150 pounds (68 kg).

Nickerson appeared for a scheduled 810 (2) CC hearing in Yarmouth Provincial Court on March 10. He has agreed to the conditions

of his release and will be released to the

community.
