ATOM A MARINERS WIN SILVER MEDAL AT CHESTER TOURNAMENT
The Wedgeport Kwik Mart Atom A Mariners brought home the silver medal from a March Break tournament in Chester held March 8 and 9.
The Mariners fell 4-1 to the Chester Ravens in the championship game on Sunday. Scoring for the Mariners was Stephen Shaw, assisted by Jean-Guy LeBlanc and Quinten Johnson. Game MVP was Hunter Hurlburt.
The Mariners had a 1-1-1 record during the round robin portion of the four-team tournament. The Mariners defeated Acadia 4-3 in Game 1. Stephen Shaw scored a pair of goals. Maguire Breton and Shayna Heroux scored singles. Contributing with assists were Jacob Surette, Tyler Greene, Cole Jacquard, Brandon Goodwin, Jonnie O’Donnell and Jean-Guy LeBlanc. Maguire Breton was game MVP. Luke Emin had the win in net.
In Game 2 Yarmouth tied Shelburne 1-1. Matthew Hines scored for the Mariners, assisted by Cameron Wallace. Colby Muise was in net and was the game MVP.
In their third game of the round robin the Mariners lost to Chester 4-2. Jonnie O’Donnell and Maguire Breton both scored. Matthew Hines had the assist. Jonnie O’Donnell was the game MVP.
The host Chester team, which won the gold medal, had a perfect record, winning all of their games in the tournament by also shutting out Acadia 8-0 and Shelburne 4-0.
This weekend the Atom A Mariners compete in a tournament in Clare.
