Trappers Association of Nova Scotia holds annual workshop, convention in Kentville
The Trappers Association of Nova Scotia held its annual workshop and convention at the Kentville Legion on Thursday, March 6, Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8. Among the events on Saturday morning were skinning and flushing demonstrations. Association director Al Worthen of Wilmot, who demonstrated how to skin and flush an otter, said the demonstrations and workshops help teach best practices for trapping and preparing pelts. He said trappers want to be recognized also as wildlife managers, as they work in partnership with the provincial Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to report data from trapping activities that helps shape decision-making and policy development. The association is working in partnership with municipalities and DNR to raise awareness of pet safety in relation to trapping, as the outdoors is a resource we all share.
