Local library branches offering programs
The following events are scheduled for local library branches:



All Branches



March Food Bank Drive

Month of March during open hours

The Western Counties Regional Library is accepting donations for the food bank throughout March, a time when many area food banks find their supplies dwindling. Library branches throughout Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties will collect the food for the food banks that serve their areas.



Yarmouth



Bedtime Stories

Monday, March 18 and 25 from 6-7 p.m.

Join Miss Janet and friends at the library for songs, rhymes and stories. Wear PJs and bring your favourite cuddly toy. Children birth to three years, 6-6:30 p.m.; children 4-7 years, 6:30-7 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.



Mid-Week Break: The Immigrant Experience

Wednesday, March 12, 12 to 1 p.m.

Tri-County Immigration Information Navigator Diane Saulnier will lead a program consisting of activities and discussions of the immigrant experience in the area on Wednesday, March 12 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Program Room at the Yarmouth library. Experience one or two diversity/cross-cultural games followed by a group discussion. Immigrants from the community will be participating in both the games and the discussions. Bring your lunch.



Easter Bunny Craft and Story Hour

Friday, March 14, 3 to 4 p.m.

Children ages 3 to 6 will be making an Easter bunny basket out of a milk carton for their Easter eggs. There will also be stories and other Easter activities. Participants are asked to register by Tuesday, March 11 by calling the library at 742-5040 or e-mailing yarmouth@nsy.library.ns.ca. Please include the event name in the e-mail subject line and your name and phone number in the e-mail.



Mid-Week Break: Scandinavia

Wednesday, March 19, 12 to 1 p.m.

Joan and Joe Paquette share their trip through Scandinavia with an audiovisual presentation on Wednesday, March 19 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Program Room at the Yarmouth library. Bring your lunch and enjoy.



Pubnico



Scrapbooking “Our” Canadian Idol

Wednesday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Youth from 11 to 14 years of age can participate in a fun, two-hour introduction to scrapbooking starting with newspaper clippings, Internet photos and a “surprise” photo of Pubnico’s Canadian Idol. All materials will be provided. The program takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 at the Pubnico branch library. This program is in English. Participants are asked to register by Tuesday, March 11 by calling the branch at 902-762-2204 or e-mailing pubnico@nsy.library.ns.ca to e-mail the branch. Include the event name in the e-mail subject line and your name and phone number in the e-mail.

March Break Crafts

Friday, March 14, 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Children ages 5 to 10 can come to the Clare Branch Library from 1 to 2 :30 p.m. on Friday, March 14 for March Break Crafts. Registration is limited. Call the Clare Recreation Department to register at 902-769-3655. This program is in French



Hackmatack Reading Club

Thursday, March 13 and 27, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Students at the Grade 4 to 6 level are invited to the Hackmatack reading club meeting at the Clare Branch Library. Read great stories by Hackmatack nominees and vote for your favourite author in April. The Hackmatack Award is Atlantic Canada's Children’s Book Award. The meetings occur twice a month. For more information contact the Clare branch library at 902-645-3350.
