Shelburne RCMP say a fire that destroyed a mobile home on Woodlawn Drive is being treated as suspicious.
When firefighters arrived shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the empty home was completely engulfed with flames leaping high into the air.
The fire was so intense Shelburne firefighters could feel the heat through their fire suits as the structure burned to the ground.
“It was a barn-burner for sure,” said Shelburne Fire Chief Edgar Allison.
On Tuesday morning, RCMP investigators and a provincial fire marshal were at the scene sifting through the blackened remains of the building.
Shelburne RCMP Sgt. Barrie MacLellan said several factors were leading police to treat the fire suspiciously, including the fact that no one was living in the home at the time of the fire.
Police, who directed traffic during the blaze, secured the scene throughout the night with the help of a private security company.
Fire Chief Allison noted that crews from Jordan Falls and Gunning Cove were called in to help put out the flames.
