Shelburne Rebels silver medalists at Provincials

Shelburne Rebels, the Western Region Division 3 champions, lost to Hants North Flames 81-55 in the provincial championship game Saturday.

The Rebels advanced to the finals with wins over St. Mary’s Academy Spartans and Guysborough Eagles.

Shelburne’s closest game came at the hands of the Eagles in Friday’s semi-final.

Both teams kept the action close as they played to a 37-33 half-time Rebel lead.

The Eagles led by five with four minutes to play but the Rebels went on a 17-2 run to take the game 82-70 and advance to Saturday’s final.

Shelburne coach Steven Pippy said it was a close game right down to the final few minutes.

“We were down with four minutes to play,” said Pippy. “Two players fouled out but the rest stepped up.

“The Eagles began to foul us and the game’s momentum changed.”

Lee Wallett led the Rebels with 23 points. Kenneth Guy had 17 and Garrett Williams and Chance Aker each had 15.

Rene d’Entremont led all scorers with 32 and Travis Robinson added 19 for the Eagles.

In the championship game, Shelburne led by four at the half but fell 81-55 to take home the silver medal.
