February 24 to March 1, 2008 LeBLANC, Hilda Madeline “Tuddie”- 88, Villa St. Joseph du Lac, Dayton, Yar. Co. passed away February 24 2008 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born on October 10 1919 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Alice (Muise) Martinelli. Tuddie was always close to her church and participated in all church functions. She was close to her family and was a very kind hearted person. Tuddie is survived by daughters Shirley (George) Allen, Yarmouth; Mary (Gerald) Muise, Kelly’s Cove; sister Viola Martinelli, Villa St. Joseph du Lac; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Stewart Amos; second husband Walter Stoodley; third husband Martin LeBlanc; grandson Mark Muise; brothers Douglas, Ralph and Melbourne in infancy; and sister Edith Mooring. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Tuesday, February 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A memorial service was held Wednesday February 27 at 2:00pm from the New Life Church, Pastor Larry Pennell officiated. Burial will take place in the Spring at Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Donations in memory of Tuddie may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation. February 24 to March 1, 2008 Edna Maude (Richards) Lohnes – 91, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of New Minas, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008 in the manor. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late George and Maude Louise (Gray) Parker. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. She enjoyed reading. She is survived by two daughters, Edith (Ernie) King, Wolfville and Linda (the late Sherman) Lockhart, New Minas; two grandchildren, Donald King and Tawnia Sanford-Ammar; three great grandchildren, Kathleen and Kimber King, Jassem Ammar. She was predeceased by her husband, Rex Lohnes; her former husband, Borden Richards; a grandson, Duane King; a sister, Ethel Ferguson. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Donald Rafuse officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. February 24 to March 1, 2008 Michael Trevor Cooper M.B., Ch. B. Student, Physician, Adventurer Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Élisabeth Bruyère Health Centre in Ottawa, in his 74th year, of the effects of throat cancer. Michael was born April 16, 1934 in Cleckheaton, England. He married Angela Young in 1959 and started his medical career in Nova Scotia in 1960 following an internship in St. John's, Newfoundland. For 17 years he worked in Halifax, Clark's Harbour and then Shelburne as a general practitioner while he and Angela raised their family of 4 children. The family moved to Ottawa in 1977 when Michael joined the Department of Health and Welfare. In 1991, he and Angela embarked upon a sailing voyage from Kingston and around the Caribbean ending in Guanaja, Honduras, where they built a house and lived until 2007. Michael is survived by his beloved wife Angela, children Adam (Cathy), Bridget (Bill White), Andrew and David (Julie) and 8 grandchildren: David, Ashley, Matthew, Iain, Grace, Natalie, Jacob and Lily.
February 24 to March 1, 2008 Lewis Henry Dimock, 83, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on June 30, 1924, in Sudbury, Ontario, he was the son of the late Victor and Nellie (Davis) Dimock. Lewis was a heavy equipment operator most of his life and had worked for numerous contractors. He was also a long time farm operator in Hants County. He enjoyed traveling and especially those Sunday drives. Lewis served in the Canadian Air Force, during the Second World War. Lewis is survived by his wife of 20 years, the former Minnie Louise Burgess; son, Wayne Dimock (Crystal Lunn), Falmouth; brothers, Raymond (Ruby) Dimock, Wasaga Beach, Ontario; Charles (Elizabeth) Dimock, Toronto, Ontario; Maurice (Julie) Dimock, Scotch Village; step children, Bill (Kathy) Livingstone, Calgary, Alberta; Tom (Lynn) Livingstone, Okanagan Valley, B.C.; Debbie (Klaus) Heckersbuch, Greenfield Park, Quebec; Janice Girvan, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lewis, was predeceased by his twin sisters, Marion Fletcher and Mary Leighton. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, immediately followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. February 24 to March 1, 2008 HIPSON, Margaret Esther, 97, of Shelburne, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point, Shelburne County. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late John and Addie (Chalmers) Falt. Marg was the mother of daughter, Janet (Yvan) LaLonde, St. Bruno, Quebec, and son, Leslie ( Elaine) Hipson, Shelburne; grandchildren, Shelly Hipson (Kevin Doane), Shelburne and Alan (Jodi) Hipson, Bridgewater; great grandchildren, Alisha Varner-Hipson and Cole Hipson; great-grand-stepson, Caleb Varner Matthews; brother, Grant Falt, Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Creighton Hipson; sister, Gertrude Grace; brothers, Raymond and George Falt. Marg graduated from Halifax Business Academy and worked in the Accounting Department of Mersey Paper, Liverpool, with the late Thomas H. Raddall. Once married (one weekend Creighton planned everything to her surprise) she moved to Shelburne and helped operate Hipson’s Garage with Creighton and son, Leslie. Her interest in business continued in her 80’s as she did the accounts receivable for Leslie’s businesses keeping her mind sharp and involved with family. She enjoyed and loved her friends: golf with Dot Smith, playing cards at Thelma Grovestine’s and “little drives” with Muriel MacKay. She would skip half her lunch to enjoy dessert and never worried about calories. She continued to drive her car until the age of 92, giving her freedom and independence. She and Muriel were often spotted at Tim Hortons sharing a soup and sandwich for supper. Her adventuresome spirit took her on travels throughout Canada and the US, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Her faith in God gave her strength. She put her best foot forward to deal with life’s challenges and was quick to forgive and to see the good in people and accept situations. Marg was a Trinity United UCW Life Member, Treasurer of the Church for many years, member of the Port Roseway Chapter of the IODE and Roseway Hospital Auxillary Finally, friends and family may be inspired by the fact that near death she stated that she had “no regrets”. There will be no visitation by Marg’s request. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church, Shelburne, with Rev. Joanne McFadden officiating. Reception to follow at the Church Hall. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity United Church, Shelburne. February 24 to March 1, 2008 SHUPE, Donald Lockwood - 92, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, formerly of Mill Village, passed away February 26, 2008 in Queens Manor. Born in New Bedford MA, he was the son of the late Guy and Roberta (Lockwood) Shupe. Donald served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was a former school bus driver and also drove delivery truck for Twin Cities Dairy and Farmers Dairy. He was a member of the Mill Village Fire Department and Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool. Donald also worked for a logging firm and enjoyed gardening and salmon fishing. Donald is survived by daughter-in-law Betty Shupe of Mill Village; and grandchildren Kerry of Yarmouth, and Karen (Victor LeBlanc) of St. Bernard. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel Selena (Veinot); and son John “Jack”. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where a Funeral Service was held Friday, February 29th, 2008. Rev. Donald Lawton officiated. February 24 to March 1, 2008 MESSENGER, Basil L. - 73, Yarmouth, passed away February 26, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Argyle on June 16, 1935, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mary (Clairmont) Messenger. Basil was a truck driver and a logging mill operator. He served in the army. Basil was a loving father, devoted husband and stepfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved camping in Barrio with friends and family. Basil loved telling stories of his adventures in life. He is survived by his wife, M. Ernestine; daughters, Corinne Surette (Scott Killam), Diane (Billy) Bain, Donna Sarty (Grant Purdy), all of Yarmouth; son, Neil Messenger; stepsons, Joey Muise (Lisa Richard), Kemptville; Tom (Leah) Muise, Yarmouth; brothers, Ted (Doreen), Ontario; Ansel (Una), Yarmouth; Ralph (Nicole), Barrington; Pat (Jo-Ann), Yarmouth; Mike (Eva), New Brunswick; Billy (Karen), Alberta; sisters, Joanne Mutton, Celena (Ricky) Robinson, both of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Jamie, Kevin, Laura, Jody, Christopher, Stephen, Adam, Kayla, Emily, Cody; eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Patrick and Paul Deveau, who were foster children of Basil and his late wife Mary. Besides his parents, Basil was predeceased by his first wife, Mary; daughter, Debi; sisters, Jean, Neva, and Ethel in infancy; brothers, Basil, Gilbert, Lawrence, Edward. Visitation was held Thursday, February 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, with prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral service was held Friday, February 29, at 10 a.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. A reception followed the service in the Jubilee Room at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Burial will take place in the spring in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. February 24 to March 1, 2008 Philip F. Eisnor – 76, of Coldbrook, Kings County, died peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 with his family by his side. Born on March 17, 1931 in Halifax, he was the eldest son of the late Anthony F. and Marguerite L. (Morash) Eisnor. Philip is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, his son, Michael (Susanne), grandson, Andrew, step-grandson, Nathan Moore, all of Coldbrook; a step-grandson, Corey (Joanna) Moore, Fredericton, New Brunswick; his brother, Eric (Judy), Antigonish; many nieces and nephews. Philip was involved in the aviation and marine industries for over 40 years. He was also a private pilot and a professional model builder, having built numerous scale ship and aircraft models for various Canadian and American museums and private collectors. Philip retired several years ago after a career as a Senior Marine Mechanical Draftsman. He was involved in the Royal Canadian Air Cadet movement as in instructor, was a founding member of the Dartmouth Experimental Aircraft Association and a member of the Armdale and Dartmouth Yacht Clubs. By his request, cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiated. February 24 to March 1, 2008 Frieda Eileen Fraser – 82, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Delhaven and West Halls Harbour, Kings County passed away on her 82nd birthday, Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Scott’s Bay, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late James and Joellen (Houghton) MacDonald. She had been employed alongside her late husband, at Archibald Farms and later worked at the pea plant in Hillaton. She enjoyed spending time with people and had a great concern for those around her. She enjoyed cooking, keeping house and playing bingo. She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Donald) Morine, New Minas; two sons, Dwight Fraser (fiancé, Heather), New Minas and Eric (Cathern) Fraser, Aylesford; a sister, Winnie (Roger) Huntley, Scott’s Bay; a brother, Howard (Carla) MacDonald, Port Williams; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; four step-children, Grace (Robert) Vaughan, West Halls Harbour; Lewis (Cynthia) MacDonald, Chipman Brook; Bryant (fiancé, Alicia) MacDonald, Kentville; Linda (Gary) Hamilton, Kentville; several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren; step-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Maynard; two sons, Lawrence and Gary; her common-law partner, Bill MacDonald; three sisters, Clara, Sadie and Evelyn; four brothers, Lawrence, Harold, Russell and Frank. February 24 to March 1, 2008 WICKENS, Hartley Wallace – 81, James Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at home. Born January 2, 1927 in Centreville, Shelburne Co., he was a son of the late Delbert C. and Edith C. (Smith) Wickens. He worked as a truck driver, and also worked with Yarmouth Town Public Works Department. Hartley volunteered with the HOPE Centre, was a faithful member of the Shoreline Bible Baptist Church, with whom he was very active. He had a great interest in politics, being a member of the New Democratic Party, having run in two elections, and having worked on numerous others. He enjoyed camping, music, doing crossword puzzles, writing letters to the editor of The Vanguard, and sharing many funny stories of his days with the Town of Yarmouth. He had a wonderfully dry sense of humour enjoyed by family and friends, and he and his wife were known to be very charitable. Surviving are his loving wife of sixty years, Augusta (Newell) Wickens, as well as his children, Susan (Greg) Jamieson, North Kemptville; Dell (Linda) Wickens, Yarmouth; Mary (Edward) Allen, Centreville, Cape Sable Island; Jeremy (Ida) Wickens, Mount Pearl, Nfld.; Garth (Heather) Wickens, Dartmouth; Angela (Charles) Stanley, Barrington Passage; Joseph Wickens (Ann Marie MacNeil), Halifax; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy MacKinnon, Centreville; brothers, Charles (Betty) Wickens, Everett, Mass.; Harris Wickens, Chelmsford, Mass.; George Wickens, North East Point. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Murray and Arthur. Hartley was a wonderful father and grandfather and he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Visitation will take place from 7-9 PM Thursday, followed by the funeral at 1:30 PM, Friday, February 29, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Rev. Peter Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in Old Kirk Cemetery, North East Point, Shelburne Co., immediately followed by reception at the home of Mary and Edward Allen (Centreville).
